Five Stars Home Inspection is the kind of company people call when they do not just want a checklist — they want to understand the house they might buy. On Google, it has 203 ratings at 5.0, and the recent reviews keep returning to the same point: Brian O’Boyle and his team walk buyers through the property in detail, explain what they are seeing, and leave them with a report they can use when making a decision. The company says Brian O’Boyle owns the business and serves buyers across Boston, the North Shore, South Shore, and Cape Ann. The strongest pattern here is education paired with thoroughness. In June, one buyer said Brian went through “every inch” of a potential home and kept them informed the whole time; another said he had already studied the exterior and roof before they arrived, then taught them step by step during the inspection; several others describe him as detailed, careful, and clear about what mattered. That matters even more for first-time buyers, and a number of recent customers say the inspection helped calm nerves and gave them a clearer basis for the purchase decision. This is not just a one-person story, either. Patrick also gets recent praise for being thorough, clear, patient, and fast with the written report; one February review says he walked the buyers through findings as he went and had the report over by that evening. Across the longer run, the company has 189 reviews from 2019 through 2026 across four sources, and the last six months brought 19 reviews with no negatives, which makes the current picture stronger than a business coasting on old praise. The one thing worth asking about is how they handle limitations and follow-up when something may be hidden inside walls or plumbing. A 2025 Google reviewer said a rotted shower faucet and pipe showed up right after move-in and felt that should have been caught, while another customer from that same period praised Brian for recommending an additional inspection from a specialist when needed. That is a useful conversation to have before booking: what is visible during the inspection, when they suggest a second specialist, and how the written report flags those risks. Five Stars Home Inspection looks like a strong fit for buyers who want a teach-as-you-go inspector rather than a quick pass through the house. Before you book, confirm who will handle the inspection, how quickly the report is delivered, and how they call out issues that need a second opinion from a specialist.

Five stars indeed! Brian and Ruth Ann were super from my first contact with them to the inspection report. At the inspection, Brian took me through every inch of our potential new home. He explained details and kept me well informed the whole time. I felt empowered and knowledgeable after his inspection. The scheduling was fast and report was ready that night. They’re also just really nice, calming people-a bonus during the stressful process of buying a home!

Fantastic inspector and would highly recommend.

Brian was recommended to us by our realtor when our offer for a home was accepted.

I went to the inspection with Brian and he was excellent - very detail oriented and thorough, leaving no stone unturned. He was climbing into unfinished attic spaces and under the porch, and finding and testing all of the systems. It was a somewhat complicated house so I was impressed with everything that he discovered.

Brian was also easy to talk to and ask questions and he answered them in a very down to earth and practical way. The report he wrote was very detailed and clear, and included plenty pictures with descriptions for each. He returned the report quickly. It was great information to have during the negotiation of the sale, and we will use the report even for ourselves going forward to make sure we know what is most important to fix in the home after closing.

Would definitely recommend Brian to anyone for home inspections. Thank you!

As first-time home buyers, this entire process has felt like a complete roller coaster of emotions, and we truly cannot say enough good things about our experience with this inspection team. From the very first phone call, we felt supported and cared for. His wife, who handles the administrative side, was absolutely wonderful — so kind, calming, and reassuring while answering all of our questions and helping ease a lot of the anxiety that comes with buying your first home.
When it came time for the inspection itself, the same level of care and professionalism carried through. Brian was incredibly thorough, patient, and generous with his time, making sure we understood everything along the way without ever making us feel overwhelmed. He explained issues clearly, pointed out what was important versus routine maintenance, and gave us confidence instead of fear.
We were especially grateful that he was willing to come out during a holiday weekend. That flexibility and dedication meant so much to us during an already stressful timeline. Throughout every step, they truly became a calming force in a process that can otherwise feel incredibly overwhelming.
The detailed report was easy to understand, prompt, and extremely helpful as we moved forward with our purchase. We’re so thankful we chose them and would recommend them wholeheartedly — especially to fellow first-time home buyers looking for someone knowledgeable, trustworthy, and genuinely caring.
