Mitchell Fuel Oil's website lists propane delivery, automatic delivery and gas line installation among its services, and the company says it has been in business for 80 years. Its stated service area runs through Salem, Southbury, New Milford, New Canaan, Danbury, Goshen, Torrington and Woodbury. A recent customer wrote that after five years in their home they "finally have really hot water," and that "the guy actually listened to my issues." A 2026 customer said Diane helped them with emergency service on a Saturday. A 2023 customer said they had been with the company for years and that it came right out for a few emergencies. A 2026 customer who paid on the budget said the company let their oil tank run dry in the middle of winter after 12 years as a customer; that customer said it caused a gasket to blow on a brand new boiler and left them without heat and hot water for hours. A 2026 customer said the company installed two manifolds in a radiant heating system that had run fine for 20 years, botched it, and then said all the pipes needed replacing. A 2025 customer said a salesperson spoke down to them when they asked questions about a proposal of more than $10,000 that they said had no information in it. A 2024 customer called it a nice place but very expensive.

They let my oil tank run dry in the middle of winter. No explanation at all. I pay on the budget so they get their money on time every month, and somehow, after being a customer for 12 years, they didn’t get to me on time, which caused a gasket to blow on my brand new boiler, and leaving me without heat and hot water for hours. Would never recommend.

Super unprofessional sales person. Would not recommend getting anything quoted - was spoken down to when I started to ask any kind of question about a $10k + proposal that had no information in it. Use someone else and save yourself from a bad experience!!!
