Murphy Fuel

Murphy Fuel is a heating oil and heating-equipment company that lists Waltham, Newton, Watertown, Belmont and Lexington as its service area. A 2026 Google customer said it installed their mini split system the previous fall, a large setup with a complicated layout, and that Terry walked through options with them and was flexible when they changed the originally planned locations. That 2026 customer said the company came back after the installation to make sure everything was working properly. A 2025 customer said Murphy Fuel replaced their oil heating system. A 2024 customer said it replaced their water heater the very next day after the old one let go. In a 2024 review, a customer whose 25-year-old central air conditioner died said they spent two weeks trying to get a quote from a different company, then called Murphy's, which came out the next day; that 2024 customer had a new, working unit within a week of the first call. A 2023 customer wrote that Murphy Fuel installed a new boiler and burner at their Weston house and added zones to the hot air system at their Sudbury home. A 2022 Thumbtack customer said it installed an indirect water heater that was up and running in a day. In a 2023 review, a cat sitter said they arrived at a client's house to find it at 57 degrees with no heat or hot water, called around 5:30pm on a Saturday, and Murphy Fuel was at the house within 20 minutes. That 2023 reviewer said Tim Murphy, whom they called the owner, worked until 10:45pm to fix the problem. On the delivery side, a 2022 Thumbtack customer said their oil was refilled regularly and payment was processed automatically, with a receipt for each fill in the mailbox. Its BBB grade is A+, and its BBB profile, in the company's own words, says Murphy Fuel Corporation was incorporated in Massachusetts in 1986. A 2024 r/massachusetts commenter wrote that Murphy Fuel's price per gallon "seems significantly higher than others." A 2022 Google customer gave one star, saying they bought a full tank of oil and were told someone would come to tune up the system, but nobody showed up for about a month. That 2022 customer said the gauge read a little over a quarter full 34 days after the fill, worked out the cost at around $1000 a month to heat a 1,000-square-foot house, said the office called that normal, and wrote "They don't keep their words." A recent Google customer, calling about the oil cap program, automatic payments and automatic delivery for a mother with Alzheimer's dementia, gave one star and said a representative told them those options were only for current customers and that they could not become a customer because the company doesn't "take people who oil hop around looking for prices every year." That customer said the representative made assumptions without listening and showed no compassion.
