New England Basement Waterproofing Solutions is a one-man operation out of Norwood -- founder Dan McQuade bids and oversees every job himself, installing interior drain systems and Zoeller sump pumps to manage hydrostatic pressure for South Shore and Norfolk County homes. The reviews split between two clear stories. On one side, several describe drains and sump pumps that have simply worked for years afterward: in a 2022 review, one customer said a system installed a decade earlier had kept their basement dry through repeated winter snow-melt saturation, and in a 2023 review, another credited Dan with quickly diagnosing rainwater intrusion from a stone fountain and fixing it on a tight budget and timeline. On the other side, a 2021 review describes the opposite outcome: a full perimeter French drain and sump pump that the customer says was installed with the sump pit too high to catch pooling water, leaving their basement wet for close to two months despite repeated calls and texts to get it fixed. The Better Business Bureau rates the company A+ and lists it as a sole proprietorship operating since 1992, though the company's own website states its founder has 15 years of contracting experience -- the two accounts of how long the business has been running don't line up. Given the split record on installation quality, it's worth asking how the drain and sump pit placement will be verified once the work is done.

I was knee deep into a major household moisture problem and needed some guidance and assistance. I called around to several "big" companies - none of which could seem to return a phone call or do anything other than send out a Salesman. Dan at New England Basement Waterproofing, on the other hand, was a literal Godsend. #1 He returns calls. #2 He remains in touch. #3 He is about the most awesome down-to-earth person you will speak with. #4 He is a pragmatic realist! He helped put the challenges in perspective, recommended fair, down-to-earth and effective solutions and didn't take advantage of my ignorance and take me for a ride. #5 And I would work with him and his company again over and over again. Go ahead and call the "big" guys in this business and you will quickly find that they are staffed by call centers -- will do nothing for you -- but send you out a Salespersons -- that knows very little about Basement Waterproofing and Drainage -- but know a lot about how to capitalize on on your fear and misery and DRAIN YOUR WALLET. Dan played it straight, was truly willing and able to serve and frankly was a highlight of a very messy situation. This Man does business in a very classy way...the way it needs to be done. If you are on the fence about who to call, you will absolutely feel and appreciate the difference when you work with Dan... Tell him Mark sent you. ;) Seriously...I truly world-class experience.
We had a French Drain and a new sump pump placed a few years ago by Dan. No flooding in the basement since that time!
Dan, his son, and Al are excellent!! We have a rental house that was getting rain water from a stone fountain. Dan knew right away what to do. We were on a budget and timeline getting it done before renters changed. He went above & beyond what he promised for the plan. Dan stayed true and honored the price he gave us. We have had SO MUCH RAIN this summer but NO WATER in the basement anymore!! Thank you Dan for your amazing work!!
Dan installed a French drain system and sump pump in my basement 10 years ago and we have never had water since despite the winter snow melt often saturating our yard. He was professional, knowledgeable and incredibly reliable. New England Basement waterproofing solutions are the BEST!
I had Dan and his team dig a full perimeter french drain in my basement, with a sump pump in the corner. They were on time and worked hard. However, the french drain and sump pump he installed in my basement was not done properly, and thus is not functioning properly. The sump pit was not placed low enough, and when water rises in the lowest spot in the house it does not flow through the drain and into the pit, where it can be pumped out by the sump pump. Numerous calls and texts, with offers to work me into his schedule, and almost two months later I'm still left with pooling water that can't reach the sump pump because the pit was placed higher than the lowest point in the house. Additionally, Dan cut through the top of the sump pit cover, leaving me with an exposed pit in my basement, which is not normal, illegal in some states, and contrary to recommendations from the American Society of Home Inspectors. When I protested the lack of a sealed sump pit, Dan proceeded to tape garbage bags across the top to create a moisture barrier. This happened because I had asked about adding a third, more powerful sump pump to the regular pump and the battery back up. The pit Dan used only had two knock out holes for piping, so instead of advising me of this, he cut the top open to fit piping for the third pump. Had he advised me properly, I would have opted for two pumps, so we could use the lid as it was designed, and seal it properly. Overall it was a fine experience while they were working here, but a combination of bad advice, no advice, and poor installation have left me with pooling water at what remains the lowest spot in my house, a dry french drain, and an empty but exposed sump pit.
