Every review on file for StoneBase Masonry — all nineteen of them — is five stars, and the same specifics keep repeating: an old New England foundation nobody had looked at in decades, a same-day response from owner Jonathan, and a job that turns out bigger than expected once the digging starts. The company, based on Washington Street in Boston, works century-old foundations, chimneys and stonework across the city's older neighborhoods. The specifics repeat across a short but detailed record: a foundation on an 1888 house that hadn't been touched in 40-plus years gets fixed with a same-day site visit and a fast quote; a 114-year-old Victorian's mortar deterioration gets repaired with a 10-year written warranty; a 120-plus-year-old granite block foundation and its chimney base both get re-pointed in one job. When a 1927-house owner brought in Stonebase and a second foundation company after their walls started cracking, the other company gave the cracks a quick look and called the foundation fine — Jonathan spent real time examining it and found the actual problem. On another job scoped as a straightforward foundation repair, digging turned up major issues, and the crew worked ten days straight instead of the three originally expected rather than walk away. In 2025 reviews, the same pattern holds on bigger stonework: a large Jamaica Plain retaining wall rebuilt over three weeks working through rain, a cracking foundation section reinforced and sealed, a chimney rebuilt with new mortar, cap and crown, and a set of gutter-damaged concrete stairs restored with granite in four days. One thing worth confirming directly: the company's own website lists Newton and Arlington as its service area, while its street address and every job in these reviews sit in and around Boston — Roslindale, West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain — so it's worth a quick call to make sure they cover your specific town. For century-old foundation, chimney or stonework repair in the Boston area, this is a deep, consistent record to hire from — just get the warranty terms in writing, the way past customers have.

This was our third project with Stonebase Masonry & Waterproofing, and at this point I’m starting to joke that my entire house is eventually going to be made of stone simply because I only want to work with them. Every experience has been excellent. Jonathan is professional, communicative, respectful of our property, and the workers always leave the work area clean when the job is done. They complete projects in a reasonable timeframe and handle coordination with inspectors, which takes a huge burden off the homeowner. What really sets them apart is how they handle the inevitable surprises that come up during construction projects. When something unexpected happens, they don't create stress—they absorb it. Jonathan figures out solutions, communicates clearly, and keeps the project moving forward. I never feel like I'm managing the project or chasing answers; he takes ownership and makes the process as smooth as possible. Home improvement projects can be stressful, but I've genuinely never felt stressed working with Jonathan because I know he'll handle whatever comes up. Quality work, great communication, and a team that stands behind what they do. We wouldn't hesitate to hire them again for project number four.
We gave Jonathan a challenging job. Our house was built in 1888. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was 40+ years since anyone paid attention to our foundation. It wasn't in good shape when we bought the house 22 years ago. We always had a layer of dust on the floor since the mortar was crumbling. I could feel the wind come through. We called the basement “the dungeon." Jonathan responded as soon as I called. He came that same day to look at the job. I got a quote right after that. And when I approved the quote, he let me know exactly when his crew would arrive. It was so easy. I loved his team. They showed up at 8 AM and left at 4 PM. They were extremely considerate, offering to help me with my grocery bags when I got home from the supermarket (even though they were in the middle of work). They left everything much cleaner than they found it. My washer and dryer, which were full of dust and detergent, are now like new. I had a closet wedged into a back corner and attached to the rafters with screws. It made the job more complicated - his team had to disassemble the closet. It was not an issue. I had asked Jonathan to repair one front step. The crew repaired all four. The job lasted about a week. Every night I was excited to come home and see the progress. I'm especially excited about the new sump pump. You can see what a beautiful job Jonathan's team did. I would highly recommend Stone Base Masonry. I had a wonderful experience.
We had a great experience with Stonebase Masonry from the free estimate through the completion of the job. Jonathan was professional, courteous, and knowledgeable throughout the entire process. We had a sinkhole in our driveway, and Jonathan quickly diagnosed the issue and provided a detailed estimate along with a clear scope of work. Before the repair began, he explained the full extent of the problem and walked us through the proposed solution. His team then got right to work. Upon completion, the area was left clean, and the repair blended perfectly with the surrounding driveway. The quality of workmanship and communication exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend Stonebase Masonry and would gladly hire them again.
Stonebase Masonry did an outstanding job re-pointing the front of our three-story brick walk-up. Their workmanship is clearly top-notch—every joint is clean, consistent, and blends perfectly with the original brick, giving the building a refreshed, solid look. Just as impressive was their communication throughout the project: they were responsive, clear about the process and timeline, and checked in regularly to make sure we were satisfied at each stage. The crew was professional, punctual, and respectful of the property. We highly recommend Stonebase Masonry for anyone seeking high-quality masonry work and truly excellent service.
I interviewed several masonry companies to repair the foundation of our 114-year-old Victorian. We're glad we chose StoneBase Masonry. Jonathan arrived promptly with an experienced crew who knew how to repair mortar deterioration on an old house; they did far more than promised! Best of all, their work comes with a 10-year written warranty. Highly recommend!
