At four in the morning on Super Bowl Sunday a Dracut household woke to a furnace making a horrible noise. It was 48 degrees inside and five below outside. Several contractors advertising 24-hour service turned them down; New Era came. A July 3rd call went much the same way — air conditioning blowing warm at 1pm on a 100-degree Friday before the holiday, a technician in the driveway at 4, the problem fixed by 4:40. New Era works out of Dracut across the Merrimack Valley, doing plumbing, heating, cooling, drain and sewer work with 24/7 emergency availability, and says it has served the area for more than 15 years. Its Google page runs to 4.9 stars across 1,067 ratings and the Better Business Bureau grades it A+. The same technicians come up by name. Robert, who a July 2026 customer says gave him a whole class on how his system worked while fixing it, and who another says left the space cleaner than he found it. Steve L, credited in June with tracking down a water problem another company could not figure out. Joe and Mike, who put in a central air unit and a humidifier and kept the household posted through every stage, working around kids and a dog. In April a dead water heater turned into a one-day upgrade to an on-demand system. The complaints cluster on one kind of job. In April 2026 a customer paid $270 for a toilet the snake would not clear and was told it would have to come off for a power auger. In January 2026 another paid $480 for a sink that he says is still unusable, while the company maintains it was cleared. A September 2025 reviewer praised the technician who came and then described the office staff as disrespectful over a $99 fee for a problem that was not fixed. A 2023 customer objected that the company would not quote a backflow valve replacement over the phone before sending someone out. Call New Era when the heat or the cooling has failed and the hour is bad — that is what it is built for, and customers name the person who showed up. For a drain that has already beaten one snake, settle two things first: what happens to the fee if the clog does not clear, and what the diagnostic costs separately from the repair.
