A $40,000 basement-and-bathroom job in September 2023 is the most detailed account of Nexus on record, and the thing the homeowner kept coming back to wasn't the tile — it was being told what was happening at every step. Nexus General Contracting is a Norwood LLC that describes itself, in its own words on Houzz, as a woman-owned general contracting company led by Carol Smith — the Caroline Rocha-Smith the BBB lists as its manager. The company's own site says it was started by a couple: Caroline, the licensed general contractor with a hands-on background across the trades, and Christopher Smith, who handles real estate and project management. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, and Angi and HomeAdvisor also list a construction supervisor licence in her name. The work is residential remodeling: basements, bathrooms, kitchens, additions. Every review it has — five of them, spread across Angi, HomeAdvisor and Thumbtack — is a five-star one, and one is written in Portuguese; Houzz lists the company as speaking English and Portuguese, and Angi notes Spanish too. The 2023 basement job description is worth reading in full: plaster walls, drywall ceiling, vinyl flooring, lighting and baseboards downstairs, and a bathroom rebuilt from tile to vanity, with a crew the homeowner called courteous through a disruptive project. The caveats are about volume, not quality. Five reviews since 2021 is a thin record, the newest of them is from May 2024, and the platforms disagree sharply on size — the BBB profile lists one employee while its Thumbtack profile claims fifty. A 2024 write-up on a local listing site was positive but did flag minor oversight needed with some subcontractors, resolved quickly. Ask who is on site day to day, and who is subcontracted. A reasonable call for a basement finish, bathroom or kitchen in the Norwood–Dedham–Walpole belt, especially if you want a contractor who communicates in writing as the job moves. Confirm crew size and the subcontractor list before signing.
