"We flourish in stuff that no one else wants," Wayne Paul told Westwood Living in December 2025, talking from the second floor of an expansion on a century-old Walpole house. That is about the size of Old Colony Construction: the Better Business Bureau lists one employee, and Paul as president and owner. The East Walpole company says it does additions, custom garages, accessory dwelling units, remodels and new construction across Norfolk County and Greater Boston. Its BBB page carries an A+ grade without accreditation and puts the start date at 2000 — though the company's own site claims 20 years rather than 26. Google is the only place customers have written anything: 4.7 stars from 10 ratings, five written reviews between 2021 and 2025. One word keeps surfacing — honest. A reviewer in February 2025 said their family had gone back to Paul for more than a decade; two others writing in October 2023 described a crew that turned up when it said it would and took care with the finish work. What the reviews don't cover, the permits do. BuildZoom lists seven permitted Massachusetts jobs between 2013 and 2023 — a kitchen gut in Waban, a rear living-room and bedroom addition in Braintree, a deck replacement in Milton, a door-to-window swap in Sharon — with values running from $7,500 to $235,000. Two things to settle on the phone. The only licence anyone publishes for the company is a City of Newton building-contractor registration, #104491, which BuildZoom shows as inactive and expired since 24 September 2019; ask what registration is current before you sign anything. And the one sour note is about the front end rather than the work: writing in 2021, a homeowner described Paul answering the phone at once and coming out to measure a bedroom addition, then going quiet when the quote was due. Right call for a homeowner with an awkward older house and a project other outfits have flinched at. Get the estimate in writing, with a date on it.
“Huge thank you to Old Colony Construction for trusting us with their business.”
““We flourish in stuff that no one else wants,” said Wayne from the second floor of an expansion and remodeling project of a century-old home in Walpole. “When it’s complex, when it’s dirty, when people look at it and say, ‘How are you going to do this?’ I tell them, ‘Don’t worry. We’ll figure it out.’””
Old Colony Construction exceeded my expectations with their exceptional craftsmanship and professionalism. Their team was highly skilled, efficient, and dedicated to delivering top-quality results. The attention to detail and use of high-quality materials made a noticeable difference. I highly recommend Wayne for anyone seeking reliable and outstanding construction services.
Old colony construction has been trusted by family for over a decade whenever we have had the need for a trusted contractor. Wayne has been honest and transparent on every job. I can’t recommend enough.
Quality builders who know their craft and take pride in the work they do. Professional, easy to deal with and very honest!
Wayne and his crew provide attention to detail and a work ethic like no other. They are prompt, hardworking, and full of integrity. Very happy with the work of Old Colony Construction and will definitely use them again.
I was so excited when I first called Old Colony Construction, Wayne answered right away and was down to my house in no time to measure and discuss adding a bedroom to my rather small 2-bedroom home. After the initial inspection, I told him that we may have a problem getting the money to do the project, but after discussing it with my father, Dad agreed to loan me the entire estimated amount. All he wanted to see was a quote with a quick re-cap of the project and the estimated price. Since then, I have been texting and calling Wayne and for some reason he has now gone M.I.A. I feel very sad at this because we specifically told him the additional bedroom was going to be for a child we were adopting from foster care. Maybe he found a more lucrative project to work on, but at least tell us you are no longer interested so we can look elsewhere. I certainly would have gave him 5-stars if it wasn't for the un-responsiveness and no call/no email/no text/no quote. UPDATE: Wayne sent over the quote! we just need a small amendment, so I am recanting my earlier review. I am not very smart when it comes to home additions and projects, so I was unaware of the work that's involved in the Quote. My apologies to all.
