Twenty-eight Google ratings averaging 4.7, an A+ and accreditation at the Better Business Bureau, and one first name that keeps surfacing in the write-ups: Patrick. Osgood Painting and Contracting works out of Ropes Street in Salem and says it has been family owned and operated since 1989 — 37 years of painting, plus the contracting trades that tend to come attached to it. Its stated service area runs across the North Shore, from Marblehead and Beverly through Peabody and Danvers out to Ipswich, Lynn and Nahant. The work customers describe is mostly paint, and often on old houses. A homeowner writing in 2025 said the thought of re-siding and painting their 100-year-old Salem home had made them put it off for years, until shingles started coming off. Another, in 2024, brought Osgood in on an 1880s exterior — weathered cedar shingles, trim carrying decades of paint, several rubber roofs, with new gutters and vents wanted on top. A 2017 account of a Salem historic home painted between summer 2016 and spring 2017 describes the job growing well past paint: a rebuilt screen porch, roofing, and repointed brick foundation and chimneys once water damage turned up in the sill. Interiors show up too. A 2022 reviewer had the kitchen, living room and bathroom repainted after smoke damage, then hired the crew again for a condo including floor staining. The newest written account, from April 2026, is simpler — every wall in a new home painted, with the homeowner noting the crew treated the house with respect. Two things recur across the years: paint that holds up, and prices that land where they were quoted. A 2025 reviewer said a whole-house job three years earlier still looked new; a 2016 customer summed it up as work "done right for the agreed upon price," and a 2020 review said the same about a painting job. The friction sits at the front end rather than in the brushwork. A 2018 reviewer said questions about a deck quote went unanswered for over a month, so they hired someone else. A 2019 customer had trouble getting the work scheduled before ending up happy with the result, and the 2017 historic-home account mentions delays in completing the job. The one recent low mark, from November 2024, came from a business caller who said they were told "we're all set" and hung up on — not a complaint about a job. For exterior and interior painting on older North Shore homes — particularly the ones where a paint job turns into carpentry, roofing or masonry halfway through — this is a well-documented choice with a decade of consistent write-ups behind it. Pin down scope, price and a start date in writing early; that is where the complaints cluster, not on the finished work.
