Paul's Carpentry Workshop is a small, owner-run carpentry outfit in Stoneham — the kind of shop people call for a deck that needs saving, built-ins, trim work, or a bathroom that needs a real rebuild. Paul Morse started it in 1986, and Better Business Bureau filings still list him as the sole proprietor, running it today with one other employee. What keeps showing up in this year's reviews is a habit of noticing more than what was asked. A July review describes him sanding and staining a deck, then catching and fixing a separate problem along the way. A June review has him finishing a basement remodel and adding a new bathroom for a Winchester homeowner who called the result 'beautiful.' A smaller April job — refinishing an old desk and hauling it up to a storage unit himself — got the same kind of praise for being fast, fair-priced, and easy to deal with. That recent run sits on top of a long history: 22 Google ratings average 4.8, and the business has picked up reviews steadily since 2008 across seven different sources, including BBB, Houzz, Angi, and mentions on Porch and Nextdoor. The Angi reviews are the oldest in the mix — four ratings clustered in spring 2008 — useful for showing the business has been around this long, but too dated to speak to how it's run today. Houzz tells a similarly thin story: a single five-star review from 2018. Its Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor license is active, and BBB has it accredited at an A+ grade since 2008. Worth asking about directly: this is a two-person operation per BBB's filing, so a big multi-week remodel is a different conversation than a focused carpentry job. The work reviewers describe most consistently — decks, trim, cabinetry, a garage rebuild, finish carpentry — is clearly the core of what this shop does well; full room remodels show up in the history too, but less often. For a homeowner with a specific carpentry job — a deck, built-ins, stairs, trim, a door or window fix — the license is active, BBB still lists it at A+, and nearly two decades of reviews across multiple sites back up the same thing: fair pricing, showing up when promised, and fixing what's actually wrong rather than just what was asked.

Paul was great not only did he do a great job sanding and staining my deck he saw a problem and fixed it. I would say that he not only does good work but also listens to what you want and need. Phillip N

I was moving and was trying to sell my, desk but no buyers, so I decided to have it refinished. I contacted Paul, he gave me a reasonable price and picked it up almost right away. I got my desk back last week and it came out great. Paul delivered it to my storage unit and even helped me get it up to my unit . Great guy and easy to deal with. Would highly recommend.

We have worked with Paul for 5 years! He is our go to contractor for home projects. Most recently he renovated our bathroom and added a whole new bathroom. This was a big project and he and his team did a great job, right on tine! He is responsive and easy to work with. He listens to your ideas and also shares his own with his deep knowledge of New England homes. If we have a project in mind, we call Paul!
