A burst pipe and a dead boiler in the middle of a snowstorm. A sump pump giving out at 8pm with the basement filling. A toilet that broke on a Saturday night. That is the shape of most of what people write about Plumr, and it is the through-line: they pick up, and they come out. The company works out of North Andover, and its Massachusetts plumber's licence — held in the name of Plumr Inc — is active. Nick, the owner, turns up in the reviews as often as his techs do; a homeowner facing a septic pump failure in May described him coming by the house himself to look at the job and walk through the options. The history behind that is deep and current: 4.9 across 317 Google ratings, 203 written reviews going back to 2021, and 28 of them in the last six months alone. The crew gets named over and over — Trevor, Ulises, Ari, Justin, Marvin — which is the sort of detail that only shows up when the same people keep coming back to the same houses. One customer this June said they had been calling Plumr for more than seven years. The work described recently runs well past unclogging a drain: an outdoor faucet repaired and cleaned up after, a shower valve rebuilt, a steam system running better than it had in years, furnaces and boilers, water heaters and sump pumps. In April a general contractor hired them for bathroom and kitchen renovation work in Back Bay and downtown Boston, so they are trusted on the trade side as well as by homeowners. Two things to raise before you call. Price cuts both ways here. One reviewer in June put it plainly — the work is good, but they are expensive — while another said Plumr's quote came in a hundred dollars under a competing plumber and the job got done the same day. Several people specifically note the final bill matched the estimate, so get that estimate in writing and the rest tends to follow. The other is a single one-star from late January, and it is not about plumbing. A caller described Nick as rude and short on the phone, and said he rang back after the review was posted and cursed at them. Every other recent comment describes courteous, communicative technicians on site, so this reads as a phone-desk problem rather than a workmanship one — but it is recent, and it is worth knowing. If your heat has quit, a pipe has let go, or water is coming up in the basement on a weekend, this is the kind of outfit built for that call. Confirm the quote up front, and ask who is being sent — the named techs are most of why this record looks the way it does.
