Primestone Home Improvement describes itself as a third-generation, Boston-area outfit that's been fixing water and structural problems in houses for more than 35 years — basement waterproofing, foundation repair, and masonry restoration are the trades it names as its focus, though retaining walls, patios, and general masonry work come up just as often in what people actually hired it for. The praise, across Google (4.7 from 13 ratings) and Angi (5.0 from 3), is consistent rather than a single outlier: reviewers writing through 2024 and into 2025 describe careful, detailed craftsmanship on retaining-wall and masonry jobs, communicative crews, and clean work sites. A BuildZoom check from mid-2024 put its score at 91, in the top 37% of licensed Massachusetts contractors — a solid mark, though built on a review base still measured in the dozens rather than the hundreds. That gap is the thing worth flagging before calling: the online paper trail is thin relative to the 35-year, three-generation story the company tells about itself — the written reviews that back it up only start in 2024. None of that makes the praise less real, but there's less history to lean on than a business with that kind of tenure might normally show. Worth asking about, too, is a mismatch in addresses: company records list an office on Franklin Street in Boston, while Angi and other directories place the business at 859 Willard Street in Quincy — probably just the difference between a mailing address and a shop, but worth clarifying before signing anything. For basement, foundation, or masonry work, this is a reasonable call on the strength of clean marks across two review platforms and no complaints on record. Given how compact that record still is, it's worth asking for a couple of recent references on a similar job before committing.

This will be an odd review, because I did not actually hire the company. That said, Michael came over to view my job, which involved excess water off my property impacting my next door neighbor. I thought I was going to have to rejigger all of my gutters for thousands of dollars, but Michael identified the real problem as lying in my neighbor's driveway, which had a dip next to his basement door where all of the water collected. Plus, his drainage system had never been cleaned (he's owned the building for 24 years). The solution then that Michael urged us to was first for my neighbor to contact Roto Router to clean out his drains. In the event that didn't do the trick, another easy solution he suggested was redirecting my downspout from the back of the building to the front. So, while I had no need to hire Primestone, the advice my neighbor and I received (for free!) was sufficient to resolve the problem for the present, and likely into the future. Many thanks Michael!

As a real estate attorney I'm always nervous about contractors. Thomas and his team were dedicated and professional down to coming in and out through a hutch so they would not track dust. We are quite happy with the service and communication. This is the type of old school care about one's business we don't see enough these days. Highly recommend

Brick and Stone Patios, Walks, and Steps - Install ($8,500). Thomas and his crew were amazing. They finished this job in a little over a day. They left the area spotless and I couldn't be happier. Worth every penny. They removed the original brick walkway and hauled away bricks.
