Prottas Painting is a one-man, Natick-based outfit that Glenn Prottas has run himself for decades — his own site says over 30 years, while BBB's file puts it at 41, and either way this is a long-running, single-owner operation with three employees on the books. The five written reviews on file all run through 2020 and 2021, and every one of them is five stars. In a 2021 review, a homeowner described Glenn's crew repainting four rooms with high ceilings and a stairwell, calling out his attention to detail preparing the walls and a few unprompted extras — painting old heating grates, scraping decades-old paint off the wood floors. Another, from 2020, had hired him for five projects across two homes going back to 1995, and specifically noted his prices stayed fair even after comparison shopping with other contractors. The one thing worth asking about directly: Massachusetts' registry shows his home improvement contractor license (#120909) as expired. BBB still lists him at an A+ grade, though he isn't BBB-accredited, and his own site and Angi profile both describe interior and exterior painting with some light carpentry and repair work mixed in. That combination — a genuinely long track record with consistently strong feedback, set against a lapsed state registration and a review history that hasn't been refreshed publicly in a few years — makes this one worth a direct conversation before booking: confirm the license status and current availability, since nothing on file speaks to recent work.
Glenn and his crew painted four rooms, including very high ceilings, and a stairwell with trim around a runner carpet. He was great. He had great attention to detail in preparing our walls, clarity in explaining what to expect in the finished product, and he wound up doing a few little extras just because he thought it would look better (painted our old heating grates, scraped old paint from years ago off our wood floors). He had a nice crew--polite, kind, and really hard workers. And after he was done, he offered to come back to touch up anything we found. Overall great experience.
Glenn and his crew are professional and considerate. Did a great job painting our whole first floor and upstairs hall.
I would recommend them!
He's awesome. We have used him at two homes, starting in 1995 - he is a pleasure to work with. Easy going, pleasant demeanor, very good to work with. We have done 5 projects with him, both interior and exterior, and his prices has always been fair, even when we have we have comparison shopped with other contractors. I recommend him to others all the time.
He does excellent preparation work.
