Re Jan Electrical has been a Boston-area electrical contractor since the late 1960s, according to the Better Business Bureau, which lists Eugene Gronich as president and roughly a dozen employees under the company's original Jamaica Plain listing. Whether that's still true today is genuinely unclear. The BBB flags the company as "out-of-business known or suspected," and a 2022 reviewer wrote flatly that it closed during the pandemic. A 2023 reviewer pushed back, though, saying it's "still very well in business" and that it moved to 172 Spring Street in West Roxbury after the old Chestnut Avenue address in Jamaica Plain was redeveloped into condos. Massachusetts's registry currently shows the company's electrician license as expired, which doesn't settle the question either way. Given the mixed signal, the sensible move before calling is to confirm the business is still operating at the West Roxbury address and ask directly about current licensing before hiring.
