Recom Heating & Air Conditioning holds MA hvac license 581-SM-B, active on the state registry. In a 2009 review, a homeowner wrote that Paul Raleigh figured out how to hide the new ducts in between floor joists during a natural gas conversion, and that in both of their furnace installs with Recom they were without heat for less than 24 hours. A 2008 review says Paul's electrician calculated the peak current demand and found an upgrade from 100 amp to 200 amp service wasn't necessary, and that the estimate price was what that homeowner paid in the end. In a 2007 review, a homeowner said Paul measured and did the calculations to size the system and worked with them on relocating the thermostat above the return duct. In a 2017 review, a customer said the repair tech Mike came on multiple occasions but was unable to determine why the unit stopped blowing warm air, and that six messages left for Mr. Murphy over two weeks had not been returned. A 2012 review says the a/c on a Unico system installed in 2011 worked on and off, and that another company later found the leak was a loose cap on a valve. A 2011 review said another contractor told that homeowner the chimney flue Recom installed was installed incorrectly.
The original salesman was responsive and professional. The work done was great. At the time of purchase I was given a 10 year warranty. Last year the unit began showing problems. This was within the warranty period. Mike repair tech has come on multiple occasions but was unable to determine what causes the unit to cease blowing warm air and blow cold air. I am sure Mike was frustrated as were my husband and I. This year Mike came out for an annual check of the system and made a repair that we all hoped would fix the issue. It unfortunately did not. I phoned the company and spoke with Paul Murphy. He suggested that I contact Mike no matter the hour when the unit malfunctions again so that Mike can observe the problem in real time. I attempted to do that. On both occasions that I called the number I had for Mike, I got a message that the subscriber was unavailable. The number I had for Mike is the one listed above in the company profile. Clearly it is not accurate. On the following, Monday I called Mr. Murphy and left a message. Over the course of two weeks I have left 6 messages. Mr Murphy has not returned my call. Professionalism would be returning my call and discussing the issue. I am sad that the relationship has ended in this manner. Mike, the repair tech is kind and professional. I am disappointed in Mr. Murphy's behavior.
Seriously the MOST unprofessional as a company can be. They are doing work on a house we abut and were installing the AC system...which means they were hammering on tin....at 6am!! The permit posted clearly states Mon-Fri 7a-6p. When approached one of the 4 men working at the site used profanities when confronted and said..."Nobody told us we couldn't start until 7a" When I spoke to the OWNER of this company he said..." That did NOT happen...2 of the men working the site are my sons". I said well I can't tell you whether or not it was one of your sons or not but IT DID happen!!! He said I've been doing this alot of years and never had such an issue....maybe not the ignorance but their reviews speak for themselves. I said ok...the foreman on the job...what are they supposed to do at the start of the job...he said...I don't know what you mean...I asked again...nothing. I then stated for someone who has been doing this for ALOT of years seems to be very ignorant to law. I said the permit in the window states when the work can begin...dead silence. I then told him I had reported them to every appropriate agency...dead silence. I then hung up. They really thought they were gonna come into our neighborhood and get away with this nonsense?!? Nice Try Boys!
After they left, I noticed a part on my floor. I have a loud banging sound with my heater that I had never had before. Also, on the Angie's List website they say that there is no travel charge, however, I have noticed on my bill where they are charging me $20.00 for the trip charge. I would also like to get in touch with Mr. Murphy regarding the charges and to pay my bill. This was supposed to be a free estimate and I don't feel like I should be charged a trip charge. I have used this company in the past and have been very satisfied with their work. I am hoping that someone will contact me from this company to resolve this issue.
If it was not for them I would still have these issues but thanks to them the problems were solved with the new system they installed. Mr. Raleigh was so nice, helpful, knowledgable and he really saved from a bad situation. The installers completed the work in one day and I have had no problems since. I would highly recommend them and they are also very responsive. If I have issues again I will call them.
The company installed brand new (American Standard) heating and central air units in my house not many years ago.. Shortly after the heating unit was installed, it took them two weeks to figure out why it did not produce sufficient heat. It was pretty cold outside. Both machines appear to be of high quality. Yesterday, the AC unit stopped working. Called them and they said they would come at 2 P.M. today. By 3 PM, I called the office and Recom said would call back. It is 6:16 PM, and no one returned call. Instead, I arrange National Grid to come tomorrow. I bet they will be here as promised.
