Refine Construction is a Dorchester-based residential and commercial builder run by Danny Ruby, who says he came to the US in 1999 and started the company in 2005 after years working for other contractors, per a 2018 magazine profile. The company's own site describes renovations and remodels, kitchen and bath work, framing, finish carpentry, fireplaces, decks and porches, and ground-up new construction, with a service area running from Boston and Dorchester out to Newton, Brighton, Weymouth, and Quincy. Its Massachusetts construction supervisor licence is active, verified against the state registry and held by Daniel Ruby himself. The clearest picture of the actual work comes from a detailed 2013 Houzz review: Danny Ruby completely renovated the second floor of a two-family home, turning bare studs into a finished apartment, staying flexible through plan changes, and building a custom shelving unit to the homeowner's own drawing that "came out perfectly." More recently, a 2026 Google review calls the work "very talented and professional," and Reddit users in r/QuincyMa point people to Refine Construction when asked for a general contractor. BBB gives the company an A+ rating, and BuildZoom's project history — 105 permitted jobs — backs up the range of work the company advertises. BuildZoom also lists a newer Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor licence (issued May 2026) for the company, though its EPA lead-renovation licence shows inactive, cancelled at one point. Anyone hiring for a whole-floor or addition-scale project has a real, cited example of that scope of work to point to — worth asking Refine directly how a project like the 2013 apartment build-out would run today.
“Look up Refine Construction.”
“I came to the US in 1999 and started out working for other contractors but started taking on more and more side projects on my own, until I realized I could just start my own business, which I did in 2005.”
Very talented and professional
Danny Ruby completely renovated the second floor of our two family home, creating our beautiful apartment. He did everything- the space was bare studs when we began. He did everything as we wanted it and was very easy to work with. He got everything done in a reasonable time and was always open to a change in plans. We ended up having him build a huge built in shelving unit based on a drawing we made and it came out perfectly. Besides being a general contractor, he specializes in carpentry and can build anything just the way you want it.
