RemodelWerks sells a process before it sells a remodel. Homeowners who hired the Shrewsbury design/build firm keep describing the same machinery — rounds of 3D drawings before anything is torn out, design meetings, one team carrying the job from drawing to punch list — and it is what most of them say made the difference. A homeowner who had already worked with two other Shrewsbury remodelers wrote in August 2025 that RemodelWerks had the best process for managing the project of the three.
The jobs are big. A 2024 reviewer described a six-month renovation and expansion of a New England cottage that kept its cottage feel. A 2023 customer walked through a whole-house gut — an addition, oil converted to gas, the electric redone, the roofline changed, the internal layout redesigned. Another 2023 reviewer said she had used the company for no fewer than ten projects at her 1822 home, from a bathroom gut to a roof repair to a kitchen; a third had an 1800s building turned into a commercial space. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, its BBB page carries an A+, and Houzz shows 4.9 across 54 ratings against 4.6 from 20 on Google.
What to ask about is the front end. Both 1-star reviews turn on money. A homeowner who wanted a basement remodeled wrote in December 2022 that the experience was "almost textbook bait and switch," after an initial estimate in the $135,000 range. In December 2025 another reviewer called the design fee the company's revenue stream and faulted it for handing over allowance budgets without the cost detail behind them. Two complaints across four years, set against a long run of detailed praise — but they land on the same seam, and that seam is where a customer pays before anything is built.
The awards are real and dated: a 2019 Chrysalis Award for Remodeling Excellence, reported at the time by the MetroWest Daily News, and a Qualified Remodeler regional design award the same year for an addition under $250,000. Houzz lists the firm as a 12-time Best of Houzz winner, with NARI-certified remodelers and an NAHB Remodeling Big50 listing.
This is the outfit for a planned, drawn-out project — an addition, a gut, a whole floor — where you want the drawings settled and one team answerable for the result. Before paying for the design phase, get in writing what the fee covers, whether it credits toward the build, what happens if the build number lands above your budget, and how your allowance selections will be priced as you make them.

Joe and team seem incredibly nice but they are skilled at sales, empty promises and deceptive in practices. They use their design fee as their revenue stream. Don't fall for it.
One example of deception is that while they give a budget for allowances, they won't tell you the cost of your selections - therefore there is no visibility to your budget. That said, how can you possibly manage your budget for allowances? This lack of honesty and lack of transparency was encountered throughout. You need to work with a trust worthy builder. Run. Run fast.
They are just a different company - for the better. You know from the first phone call they aren't just going to get you to sign a contract and then slam through it with unknowns and extras the whole way. We appreciated the time they took to make sure we understood what would be done and what the pros/cons were for each decision we made.
Our project wasn’t standard, and we wanted it to blend seamlessly with our existing house rather than look like an add-on. After a few rounds of ideas and 3D drawings, we found a design we loved. Later, when moving on to the kitchen cabinetry, they carefully ensured we had space tailored to both our daily routines and special occasions. Thank you, Remodelwerks!
We love our new addition designed and built by Remodelwerks. We had several design meetings with them, and were able to see our project in 3d renderings which really helped us figure out some details we current make decisions. We visited their local cabinet showroom at Emily's and designed a really functional mast closet. Very happy with this team and would recommend them to friend sand family.
