Renaissance Masonry works out of Watertown, and the thing that comes up again and again in its reviews is old New England foundations — fieldstone basements and 1880s houses that need careful repointing rather than a quick patch. The company's site says owners Kevin Burke and John O'Connor bring more than 40 years of combined masonry experience, having started in the trade in Ireland and England before settling into work around Boston; it lists stucco, chimney, and foundation/basement restoration as its main lines of work. Both Google reviews on file describe hiring Kevin for foundation repointing on 1880s houses. In a 2025 review, a homeowner who had used them for several projects called the quotes accurate and the crew easy to work with; in a 2024 review, another described being referred to them specifically as fieldstone-foundation specialists, getting a reasonable quote, an on-time start, and clear word on added costs once the crew ran into complications. The Better Business Bureau lists the company at an A+ grade and 27 years in business, though it is not BBB accredited and shows no review or complaint count of its own. One thing worth asking about: a violation tracker lists a 2010 workplace safety or health citation against the company with a $7,000 penalty — old, but worth a direct question before booking given how thin the rest of the public record is. With only two Google ratings on file so far, the written history here is short, even if what's there is consistent. Renaissance is a reasonable call for foundation and stonework repairs on an older home, especially fieldstone; confirm current pricing and ask about the 2010 citation directly before signing anything.
“RENAISSANCE MASONRY, INC | workplace safety or health violation | 2010 | $ 7,000”
I’ve hired Kevin and John for several foundation repair/repointing projects on my old house (built circa-1880). They do top notch work, communicate well, and provide accurate quotes. Super nice guys and very easy to work with. Glad we found them years ago!
We hired Renaissance Masonry after they were recommended to us as specialists in old fieldstone foundations (we have an 1880 house). We found Kevin to be responsive and very easy to work with. He gave us a very reasonable quote for some repointing work, showed up exactly when he said he would, and was transparent and clear about additional costs when they ran into some issues. We are very happy with the work and look forward to hiring Renaissance again in the future!
