Ryan Painting Company is a Jamaica Plain outfit whose 46 reviews, running from 2021 through 2026, keep circling back to the same two things: care with older Boston housing stock, and communication reviewers spell out in detail — texted photo updates, clear written quotes, a follow-up visit to check the work. The specific jobs tell the story. A 2022 review describes a full interior repaint of a 130-plus-year-old home meant to keep its historic feel while brightening the space, with a consultative walk-through of paint types and color choices. A 2024 review covers a three-story bow-front Victorian that hadn't been painted in 20 years, needing carpentry repair and shingling before the paint went on; another account from the same year, restoring a 100-year-old house, describes the same kind of care. Reviewers also point to work beyond straight painting — patched drywall and plaster, a rebuilt plumbing enclosure, power-washed and stained decks on triple-deckers, a mail slot installed, curtain rods hung. A February 2026 Reddit thread recommending contractors in West Roxbury names the company for floor work and plaster/drywall fixes after an electrical job, specifically calling out their care around lead dust in an older home. Two 2023 reviews, both one star, describe no-shows — one for a scheduled meeting, one for an estimate appointment — with no call or email either time. Neither is echoed in the other 44 reviews on file, including four filed in the past six months, none negative. The BBB page also lists an OPSI license (CS-116280) and an OCABR registration (146754) for the company; these are the directory's own listings, not something checked against the state registry. For an older Boston-area home that needs painting paired with plaster, drywall or siding repair — or a quick, deadline-driven repaint ahead of a sale — this is a crew whose reviewers keep pointing to the same things: careful handling of old-house details and steady communication. Worth nailing down a firm appointment time up front, given the two no-show reports.
“We recently had Ryan Painting Co do our floors and a lot of plaster / drywall fixes after the electricians came through. They were excellent , especially if you’re in an older place like us and concerned about lead dust. painterboston.com”
Ryan did an excellent job painting several small areas around my home. Scheduling was easy and he showed up right on time. Ryan was neat and cleaned up after himself. I was very pleased with the results.
This is a long overdue review of Ryan Painting for a job they did in June 2023! Just kept forgetting to post. So many good things to say about them. They painted the entire interior of my condo before I moved in. And they did it with about a week's notice, and completed it in two days! I was worried that the quality would suffer, but it didn't, and the price was competitive, especially given the quick turnaround. Ryan himself is great -- good communicator, he helped me pick out the best shade of white, and he came back twice to do the touch-ups himself. Lastly, knowing it was my new home, the team left me a bouquet of fresh flowers and a note! I highly recommend Ryan and his team!
Ryan was fantastic to work with from start to finish. They did beautiful work in our daughter's bedroom for an affordable price and we plan to hire them again for our next projects.
We contacted Ryan Painting based on the reviews here. They are spot on! Ryan is a gem to deal with...honest, comes on time and delivers an amazing product. Since we are new to Boston, he was also helpful in recommending other contractors that were not within his scope. We are so very pleased with all the work he team did!
Ryan and team did a flawless job painting our three-story, outdoor, metal staircase (goes to 2nd unit) that had started peeling. It required extensive scraping, and is an outdoor, metal project, with a million tiny hard to reach crevices. It now looks flawless, with very weather-resistant coatings and color that perfectly matches our historic color selection. Moreover, his team was incredibly efficient, and conscientious while working and in cleanup.
