Schmidt Painting

Derrick Schmidt keeps painting the same people's houses. One customer counts twelve years of jobs with him, another more than twenty; a third had the exterior done in 2012, liked it enough to call again in 2025, and someone whose outside was painted in 2014 said it still looked good when the crew came back in the fall of 2023. Schmidt Painting is a family business out of Hyannis — Derrick with his wife Sarah — covering Cape towns from Bourne and Falmouth across to Chatham and Eastham. Painting is the centre of it, but carpentry keeps arriving alongside. A 2024 customer had thirteen pieces of rotted trim replaced with the paint job. Another had a screened front porch rebuilt, trim redone and the original windows restored on a classic Victorian, work that started in 2023. Crews have laid luxury vinyl plank, replaced deck boards, put in a Trex roof deck and swapped exterior lights. A 2025 customer with a beachfront house wrote that what sold them was Derrick's grasp of what salt air and sun do to an exterior finish. Pace and tidiness come up constantly: ten rooms in a 2,800-square-foot house inside a week, an interior finished in two days by a crew working long days, a property where nothing was left lying around at the end of the day. When something did go wrong, customers describe it being handled — one wrote that issues discovered well after completion were put right quickly, and another that the company did whatever it took. Two things to settle before signing. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, number 160204, shows as expired on the state registry, under Schmidt Painting as holder of record — that matters here because this crew does carpentry, decks and trim replacement, not painting alone, so ask where the registration stands. And a November 2025 customer whose house was re-stained described confusion over when the power washing would happen and some expensive Japanese evergreens damaged by the painters, with Derrick agreeing to discount the bill; if you have plantings tight to the house, walk them with the crew first. For a Cape exterior that needs washing, rot repair and paint in one pass, or an interior against a closing date, this is a long-running local crew with a deep bench of customers who keep calling back.
