Custom built-ins and one-off furniture are the whole of what Shawsheen Woodworks makes. Its Houzz profile describes a one-person woodworking shop turning out bespoke fine furniture, furniture-quality built-ins and custom cabinetry, with a shop address at 50 Island Street in Lawrence and a phone line at (617) 775-9760. Four projects are posted on that profile, in Boston and Andover homes, and Houzz lists typical job costs between $300 and $3,000. For a homeowner who wants a bookcase, a run of cabinets or a piece of furniture built to fit one specific space, this is the kind of shop to call. Ask what a quote covers, how long the build takes, and for proof of insurance and a couple of references before the work starts.
