Simard Gas & Oil is the kind of fuel company people stay with for a decade and only get around to reviewing later. Its Google page sits at 4.8 across 36 ratings, and the recurring thread isn't a dramatic rescue — it's that the truck shows up, the price is fair, and the same people answer the phone. The company works out of 53 Florence Avenue in Haverhill and says it started there in 1939 as a family-owned propane and heating oil supplier, still family owned and operated. What it sells is fuel and the hardware around it: automatic and emergency delivery to aboveground and underground tanks, pre-buy plans, propane tank and appliance installation, and grill-cylinder refills at the office. Its stated service area runs across northeastern Massachusetts — Haverhill, Bradford, West Newbury, Boxford, West Boxford, Georgetown, Merrimac, Groveland, Methuen — and into southern New Hampshire towns including Plaistow, Atkinson, Sandown, Danville, Hampstead and East Hampstead. The review history is shallow in count but long in span: 14 reviews stretching from 2021 to 2026 across three sources, none of them negative. A homeowner writing in February said they've come back to Simard every year since closing on their house nine years earlier, called the pricing fair, had never had a delivery problem, and singled out a staffer named Dave. Another recent note is barely a sentence — someone getting a grill tank filled and going on with their weekend, which is roughly the point of the counter service. What's worth knowing before you call is what the company itself puts front and center: this is a supplier, not a 24/7 service outfit. The website lists separate emergency numbers for propane and heating oil, and it limits those lines to October through April; emergency burner service and oil burner cleanings are pointed to an outside contractor entirely. If you want one number that covers both the fuel and the equipment year-round, ask how that's handled before you sign up for automatic delivery. Simard suits a homeowner in the Haverhill area who wants a small, long-established local supplier for propane or oil and values talking to a person over a portal. Confirm the current delivery schedule and which pre-buy or budget plan you're on, and clarify who to call for burner work outside the heating season.

Dave from Simards is awesome! Since closing on my house 9 years ago I have always came back to this company. They are very fair with pricing and I’ve never had any issues with delivery. We appreciate the yearly calendar as well that the always hand out.

We’ve used Simard Gas & Oil Co for about 8 years, and honestly, we should have left this review a long time ago. Over that entire relationship, they’ve always gone above and beyond. Service has been reliable, professional, and consistent year after year. The Harrington family truly trusts these guys, and that trust is earned—not given lightly. It’s rare to find a company that treats customers the right way for this long. We’re grateful for the relationship and highly recommend Simard Gas & Oil to anyone looking for dependable service from people who genuinely care. — Harrington Family / Harrington Overhead Inc.

I called a half-dozen propane companies, and only Simard was willing to recertify my 10-lb propane tank for my sailboat. They were courteous, quick, and genuinely pleasant to deal with. The whole process was easy from start to finish. It’s clear they care about their customers. They are a great family-run business that still believes in service and integrity. I highly recommend Simard for any and all propane needs!
