Brian Smith has run this Beverly roofing and gutter operation for 27 years, according to its Thumbtack profile — a tenure that lines up with a small but consistent run of five-star reviews for roof patches, full roof-and-gutter replacements, and leaf-guard installs. Customers writing between 2023 and 2025 kept returning to the same theme: no upselling. In a 2023 review, one homeowner described Smith and his crew finding an efficient fix for a patch-up job that other companies tried to turn into a bigger, pricier project — they even rented a U-Haul truck to keep the job moving when their own broke down. A 2024 reviewer called the process, from a virtual quote through the finished gutter replacement, smooth, and said the crew cleaned up, remembered names, and fixed rotting trim they noticed along the way. Another 2023 review, for a full roof-and-gutter replacement, called the pricing very fair and Smith himself easy to work with. One thing worth asking about before booking: the company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration (#146651, held by Brian Smith) is registry-verified expired. Thumbtack's own listing carries the same license number, a background-checked badge, and a related profile for Smith Gutter LLC run by the same principal at the same Beverly address — likely the same operation working under two names. A 2024 review also flagged a narrower gripe: Smith installs only one style of leaf guard, which wasn't the customer's preference. For a straightforward roof repair or gutter job on the North Shore, the reviews point to a responsive, no-drama small operation — just confirm the registration status directly before signing anything.
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from Smith Roofing. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.
A square is 100 sq ft of roof surface — bigger than the floor plan because of pitch and overhangs.

Great job with installation or larger gutters and guards. Highly recommend them.
Overall, I am happy with the job completed by Smith Gutters LLC. We had an overflowing water issue from gutters in our house. They installed two new gutters and leaf guards in our house. They look nice. I would be very happy to hire Brian for more leaf guard installation, as there are more gutters which need it. Unfortunately, I was told that Brian is working just with one kind of leaf guard and wouldn't install a different, which I wanted.
Brian showed up, evaluated what was needed, gave estimate, acquired necessary parts, returned and did the work: Prompt and very professional. Excellent workmanship. Did not engage in annoying up-selling, as many contractors tend to do. 5 STARS!!!
Smith roofing is so easy to work with! They listen to my concerns in a very respectful way and remained professional throughout. They did a great job and I give the rm give stars without hesitation.
Brian Smith is literally everything you want in a contractor. Was incredibly responsive, provided a quote virtually and then followed up with an in-person detailed quote, squeezed us in quickly, and did an excellent job with the gutter replacement. He and his team showed up right when they said they would and worked steadily, cleaned up after themselves, and remembered our names. They also repaired parts of our exterior trim that was rotting and it looks great. Worth noting that Brian is one of the only professionals who provided his license number immediately, has a warranty on his work AND parts, and his quote was exceptionally reasonable compared to other quotes for this project.
