A homeowner had SQS Construction come out during a rain storm in December 2023 to replace a broken window. That is the kind of call this Boston outfit gets. Gerone Trevor Powell's company says it started in 2017 and became SQS Construction LLC in March 2020, and its own site puts door and window replacement at the center of the work, with renovations alongside. Doors are the recurring job. A screen door. A cellar door in an old house that needed a whole new frame built. A dog door cut into a wall with a ramp so the smaller dog had the same access as the larger one, described in an October 2022 review. Another October 2022 customer had three storm doors and three entry doors replaced, and when old insect damage turned up in the foyer, the whole floor and front wall went with them. In a September 2023 review, a customer said her mother's front door was tall enough that other companies insisted it be custom sized and ordered; SQS let them pick the style they wanted instead. A few reviewers wrote about the estimate rather than the install. One Angi customer in July 2023 asked for a quote, had Gerone out the next day with a thorough written estimate, then got fit in the following week after a cancellation. A November 2022 customer said he suggested replacement brands less expensive than the options other contractors had given. And in a November 2023 review, a homeowner listed antique doors repaired, the front door weatherized and a smart lock installed, with the crew working a Sunday to get it finished. Two things to raise before you sign. The state registry shows the company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #198747, as expired, while the company's own site lists a Massachusetts HIC and an unrestricted Construction Supervisor License — ask where both stand today and get the answer in writing. And one August 2022 Angi reviewer, who knew Gerone through a friend, called it a horrible experience, opening the account with a 9:35 arrival for a 9 a.m. start. The written accounts run from 2020 into early 2024. If your problem is a door nobody else wants to take on — an oversized opening, a rotted frame, a wall that has to be opened up for a pet door — this is a reasonable call. Confirm the licence status, ask for the quote itemized the way that July 2023 customer got it, and settle up front what happens if rot turns up once the old door is out.
