Thomaston Oil & Propane delivers heating oil and propane and services furnaces; its website lists a service area that includes Litchfield, Watertown, Woodbury and Bristol, and the company says it has been in business 40 years. A recent customer said they told the company a 200-foot hose was needed for their steep driveway, but the driver drove up the driveway instead and crushed two tire tracks into it. The company would not accept fault, and the customer said they sued in small claims court before the company's lawyer agreed to settle. That customer said the oil itself came at the agreed price. A 2026 customer said a promised next-morning delivery arrived without the tank being filled, and the office offered to come Monday. A 2025 customer described being charged twice on several deliveries and a partial fill after asking for a full one. A 2025 customer said the office threatened collections over a same-day delivery fee, then emailed that the customer did not owe anything. A 2024 customer said they ordered 150 gallons and the tank was filled with 216. A 2023 customer said a grill gas-line fix took under five minutes but was billed with a diagnostic fee and a minimum service charge. On the service side, a 2025 customer said Dom cleaned and serviced their furnace and pointed out things to take care of. A 2025 customer said the company delivered oil within 24 hours when their furnace was running on fumes. A 2023 customer said it identified and corrected a no-heat problem the same day, and a 2022 customer said Jason came out right away to fix an oil leak and the bill was reasonable. On Google it holds a 3.4-star average from 50 ratings, and its BBB grade is A+.
“First mistake. Calling Thomaston oil. Yikes.”
“here in CT I called a company called Thomaston oil to look at my father's in law furnace that was not turning on”
“Respondent owns, leases, operates, or controls a gasoline dispensing facility”
I had a rough time with these guys. I needed oil, and my old supplier got sold, so I joined a coop and matched me up with Thomaston. From the very begining I was clear that they needed a 200 foot hose to fill my tank. My driveway is very steep and carries a high risk of damaging it with trucks. They confirmed they had the hose and we set the appt. Well the driver decided not to use the long hose from the street and instead drove up my driveway, completely crushing its two tire tracks into it. I wasn't home at the time, but had video from my doorbell cam. When I go home I was shocked at the amount of damage. I called Thomaston and after back and forth with the receptionist and then manager, I was told they would not accept fault and they would do nothing to mitigate the damage. I sent them a demand letter fully oulining the damage, showing statements from pavement companies on the extent of the damage and cost to repair, video of the truck causing the damage, before and after pictures of the driveway, and proof of the emails between them and the coop mention the required long hose. I didn't get a response until weeks after the deadline. It was a low offer that didn't even cover half of the cost. It took a while but I needed to sue them in small claims court. Once we were in the pre trial settlement meeting, their lawyer agreed to settle for the maximum small claim payout, so eventually I got my damages, but there were so many chances for the company to do the right thing. I just warn caution. In business, mistakes happen, but if you company isn't willing to make things right, people should know. All that being said, I did get my oil in that delivery for the agreed upon price.
I’m not sure about there oil but on sept.3 2026 at around a noon one of your trucks in Huntington section of Shelton almost drove over our car. It was at the traffic light right by Ted’s appliance. Driver went from the left lane at the light over to the right with my wife and I along his/her side. If I didn’t stop the truck would have hit us. Truck had a number 2275 on the back up at the top. They need to go back to driving school
Great local company! They do so much for the community and have been family owned for 40 years!
Don't be surprised when you provide terrible service and a bad attitude, and suddenly your customers decide to give you a taste of your own medicine.
Terrible service & entitled owners.
