Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from Tip Top Roofing Company. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.
A square is 100 sq ft of roof surface — bigger than the floor plan because of pitch and overhangs.

Slate and copper are what Tip Top gets called for. In a 2025 review, a homeowner who had collected several bids for a slate repair and some EPDM rubber roof replacement picked Don because he knew the material better than anyone who quoted, priced it fairly, guarantees his copper work, and explained how to look after it afterwards. Tip Top Roofing works out of Methuen on slate, copper fabrication, metal and tile roofing, with gutters, snow and ice removal and repairs, across Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, and its Better Business Bureau page is an A+ with accreditation dating to 2014. BuildZoom lists the business as slate roofers and metal craftsmen with 44 roofing projects recorded. The other customer account is a repair. In May 2025, a homeowner with a couple of leaks said Don diagnosed the problem quickly, was clear about what needed doing and what it would cost, and installed attic vents as part of the work. A commenter in a New Hampshire subreddit wrote in 2025 that Tip Top had done his roof the previous summer — about 2,500 square feet for $11,000 — and did a good job. The one complaint is about the front end rather than the roof. In August 2024, a homeowner said Don had agreed to come at nine in the morning to look at a roofing problem and give an estimate, never arrived, and did not return two calls made that morning. The company's own account of its age does not hold together: its site says it was founded in 2011 and elsewhere claims 41 years in the trade, while its BBB page records 43 years in business. For slate, copper or metal work — the jobs most roofers subcontract out — this is a specialist with an active registration and a long-standing BBB accreditation. The written history is short, so ask for two or three recent slate or copper addresses, and pin the estimate visit to a confirmed time before you rearrange your morning.
“I used tip top roofing last summer, they did a good job. not sure the size house you've got, but for mine, about 2500 square feet, it was 11k.”
Don repaired our slate roof and also replaced some EPDM rubber roofs on our house as well. I had gotten other bids for the job but Don stood out by far as the most knowledgeable and had fair prices. In addition, he guarantees his copper work and made suggestions on how to properly maintain our roof in the future. Him and his crew took their time to ensure the job was done right and kept us updated along the way with pictures. Overall, he comes highly recommended to anyone needing their roof serviced.
We had a couple leaks in our roof, and Tip Top Roofing did an outstanding job with fixing everything that was needed. Don was able to quickly diagnose the problem, and was great at communicating what needed to be done with fair prices. They also installed attic vents and repaired the area around our chimney. We felt very confident in this company’s knowledge and expertise, and highly recommend them to anyone with a slate roof.
Don said he was coming on 8/15/24 at 9:00am to check out roofing problem and give estimate. I called at 9:30 and again at 11:30. I never received a call back. Don't say you are coming and then be a no-show. Very unprofessional.
