Across 24 Google ratings averaging 5.0, the same story keeps repeating: the owner, Peter, answers his own phone, comes out fast, and the crew is gone in a day. The Everett company's own description is broader than that — underground utility, site development and excavation, water and sewer, paving, demolition, concrete coring and commercial snow management, for municipal, commercial and residential clients, with over 35 years of experience by its own account. But what homeowners actually write about is the emergency: a broken main, a collapsed sewer, a lead service line that needs replacing. The specifics are unusually consistent. A December 2025 customer had the whole water line replaced from cellar to city main in bad weather and got the yard and driveway put back. In May 2025 a homeowner watched them expose an old cast-iron-to-clay connection and replace 100-plus feet of sewer in 4-inch PVC to the city main, finished in a single day. A 2023 reviewer with a house set far back from the street, who had been told by other contractors the job would be complicated and expensive, had it done in under a day and the concrete replaced. Another in 2024 described a main water line failure in February and a crew on site within the hour. Several people mention that the company handles the city permitting and the utility coordination itself. There is one thing worth knowing that has nothing to do with the digging. Tufts Construction has been in litigation with the City of Malden — Middlesex Superior Court docket 2181CV01248 — seeking more than $10 million over what it says were unpaid invoices; a trade-press report from September 2025 describes a judge declaring a mistrial in that case after finding serious misconduct by the defence, and Malden residents on Reddit in January 2026 were asking who paid for the eventual settlement. Read plainly, that is a municipal payment dispute in which the company was the plaintiff, not a complaint about its workmanship. Call them for the things that go wrong underground: a water service, a sewer line, a main break, an excavation nobody else wants to quote. Ask for the scope in writing and confirm who pulls the permits, then let them dig.
