Unfinished Business of Cape Cod runs a showroom on Route 6A in Dennis, and the name is a bit of a wink — the company says it has built custom cabinetry and furniture there since 2000, run by Jeff and Joanne Marselle as a family business. People don't call them for a quick fix; they call for a built-in that has to fit one specific room exactly — a wall unit, a bookcase, a dining table sized to an odd-shaped space, or a full run of kitchen cabinets. What stands out across more than two decades of reviews is how many customers come back. One 2026 reviewer describes ten years of buying pieces from the Marselles, most recently a basement wall unit built to spec, and says they're now working with the couple again on a fireplace rebuild that involves coordinating a tile setter, plumber, and electrician. Others describe the same pattern in miniature — a first bookcase job that leads to a dining table order, or a repeat customer ordering a second built-in. When the job is bigger than furniture, several reviewers say Jeff and Joanne ran the whole project: one couple credits them with managing a full kitchen update including demolition, flooring, lighting and tile, not just the cabinets; another says the pair "designed the work, and then managed its construction and installation completely" for a bathroom remodel that came in on budget and on schedule. A 2019 review names a project manager, Chris Potoczny, brought in to keep a kitchen remodel on schedule through what the reviewer called "the stressful days of THE MESS." The reviews are consistently specific rather than generic — an 8-week installation delivered on the promised timeline, a wall unit built to fit an oddly-shaped corner, a round table designed to expand for guests — and they run from 2018 through early 2026, so this isn't a burst of recent activity. Houzz shows a 5.0-star average across 23 reviews, with sub-scores of 4.8 for work quality and 5.0 each for communication and value, and the one Google review on file is also five stars, though from a small base of just 8 ratings. Before calling, it's worth knowing that BBB's file puts the company at 21 years in business — a few years short of the "since 2000" the company's own site and its Houzz profile both state — so the exact start date is a little fuzzy, though not the underlying history. The company is not a BBB Accredited Business, though BBB still grades it A+. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, held by Unfinished Business Of Cape Cod Inc. This is the right call for a homeowner who wants one specific piece — a built-in, a custom table, a bookcase — made to fit an exact space, or a kitchen or bath project where the cabinetry work and the surrounding trades are managed by the same two people from design through installation.
Jeff and Joanne Marselle, owners of Unfinished Business of Cape Cod, are wonderful. When working with them, you will find they are warm and friendly as well as extremely knowledgeable, talented and professional. Over the last 10 years we have purchased many beautiful and well made pieces of furniture from them. Most notably recently was a wall unit for our basement which was made by them to our specifications and is magnificent and exactly what we wanted. Currently, they are working with us to replace and rebuild our fireplace; a complicated job that involves coordinating the tile work, plumber, electrician and fireplace installation as well as the woodwork for our new mantel. It is such a pleasure to work with them as they are excellent communicators and listeners as well as reliable and good humored. We definitely recommend you give this terrific business a try!!!
Joanne and Jeff took all of our concerns into consideration and produced a built-in dresser that fit perfectly into our space. They made suggestions to maximize storage space while maintaining the look we wanted. They were a pleasure to work with. We will definitely recommend Unfinished Business of Cape Cod to friends and neighbors.
Jeff and Joanne from Unfinished Business have been GREAT to work with from start to finish. They helped us completely transform our kitchen. They came to our house to discuss design concepts & options, and completely handled the installation. We are extremely satisfied with everything and highly recommend them!
Ann and I could not be more pleased with the beautiful built-in bookcase/games cupboard Unfinished Business made for our den. From design stage to final installation, Joanne and Jeff were a pleasure to work with: responsive, professional, attentive to detail, on time and on budget. The fit and finish of the piece is exceptional. We can't imagine the room without it.
We ordered two custom tables made to fit our Cape house. Joanne was a pleasure to deal with during the ordering process. The tables were delivered on time and look beautiful. Jeff and David did a great job setting them up and showing us how to assemble and store the leaves.
