A 2023 customer had two layers of old flooring to get out of a kitchen. Van arrived early, worked the entire day, and took them both out. That is the work this Dorchester flooring contractor gets hired for — hardwood going in, tired hardwood sanded back down — usually Van himself, with a small team on the bigger installs. Thumbtack counts 129 projects and rates him 4.6 from 13 ratings; Angi and HomeAdvisor each show 4.8 from six. The accounts customers wrote run from 2015 to 2023. In a 2017 review, one described carpet stripped out of a front foyer, staircase, landing and upstairs hallway and hardwood laid over the plywood underneath, curves and small corner areas included. Sanding and refinishing is the other half of it. A 2017 customer who had just bought a house needed floors sanded, stained and refinished, came by way of a friend's referral, and said Van was honest, easy to talk with, and finished on time. A 2018 Thumbtack reviewer said old hardwood was refinished well, and a 2016 reviewer whose floor was "a mess" wrote that it "looks new again". A 2015 customer said the job came in faster than expected and that everything was explained along the way. The listings disagree on how long he has been at it — Thumbtack says 21 years, Angi and HomeAdvisor say 11 — so ask him directly. For a hardwood install or a sand-and-refinish in a Boston house, this is a straightforward call: ask for two or three recent addresses you can go look at, and get the price per square foot and the finish schedule in writing.
