There are a lot of roofing companies out there and it’s difficult to know if you are making the best choice for such an expensive home repair, one that could cause major issues in the future. Jay at Able Roofing helped make the decision easy. From start to finish, he and his workers were great. Jay came out to look at the job, gave a competitive quote and didn’t try to up sell. The materials (used quality materials) were delivered right to the house and the job was completed in 2 days. That included the main house, family room, garage AND replacing 4 skylights. The workers were polite and professional. Once completed, they did a full sweep around the house to make sure they picked up as much debris as possible. Last winter, we had a major snowstorm that dumped about 20 inches of snow on our roof, creating the potential for serious ice dams. We had dealt with that problem back in 2015 after heavy snowfall and definitely didn’t want to go through it again. With such a high roof—and at my age—climbing up there myself wasn’t an option. I assumed I’d have trouble finding help since everyone would likely be calling roofers at the same time. I came across Able Roofing online and decided to give them a try. I spoke with the owner, Jay, who promptly sent out a crew of four. To my surprise, the job cost only around $200—and best of all, we had no leaks. Fast forward to spring, we began gathering quotes for a full roof replacement. The other three estimates we received were significantly higher than Able’s. Unlike the others, who gave polished sales presentations with product samples, Jay took a straightforward, practical approach. He walked around the house with me, assessed the roof, and clearly explained what needed to be done. For example, he recommended installing ice dam protection along the entire back side of the roof due to its shallow pitch—something the other companies never mentioned, even though that’s where we had leaks in the past. Jay also advised that we didn’t need new gutters but suggested replacing the underlying boards with PVC for durability. It felt like honest, experience-based guidance rather than a sales pitch. He provided a detailed written estimate outlining all the work and materials, which were top quality. Once the project started, it became clear that much of the existing plywood was deteriorating and needed replacement. Able handled everything, including reinstalling the existing gutters (since they were still in good shape) and replacing the trim boards beneath them. Even with the additional work and unexpected issues, the final cost was about 30% less than the next lowest quote and roughly 50% less than the highest. I’m confident the other companies’ costs would have increased even more once they uncovered the same underlying problems. Able Roofing is a multi-generation family-owned business, and it shows in their workmanship and integrity. Jay—and his son—were professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with throughout the entire process.

Jay was so responsive and helpful when we had an ice dam this year. He’s very honest, and was able to stop our attic from being a fountain of melting ice. We look forward to a longer term solution in the spring with Jay and his team when we can add some more flashing to the problem area of the roof.
