Absolute Tile

Absolute Tile - Dawna was great with helping us pick out kitchen backsplash tile. This review is for Absolute Tile owner Ricardo who also installs tile under Imperial Tile Plus. Overall rating is a 2 for Ricardo’s installation of kitchen backsplash and grout July 28 & 29, 2022. He advertises “High Quality” and “Perfection” but I found this to be far from the truth. I wish there were more reviews out there that would have warned me. To get a clear picture the review needs to be broken into different components as some parts were better than others. Tile installation rating 4. Ricardo did a nice job with this. I would suggest he discuss with client before the job starts how the layout will work (how many tiles from bottom row and what top row cut size would be). I asked before he started and we had to layout tile to see. Seems that should be a consideration before job begins to ensure top row isn’t a sliver. It worked out fine for me. Grout rating 1. This was absolutely horrible. The grout color is inconsistent throughout making the beautiful backsplash look horrible. There are light areas, medium and dark areas throughout the backsplash. Even worse there are at least 12 areas where there is no grout ranging from 1/2” to 1 1/2”. I asked Ricardo about the different grout colors and he said don’t worry it needed to dry 1-2 days before it evens out. I did not look closely at grout to notice the spaces without grout until after he left. Business Integrity 1. I sent Ricardo an email describing the grout color issues and the spaces without grout. I included pictures showing both of these issues. I’ve given him 2 weeks to respond and have heard nothing. Next was his estimate for work. He talked me through his estimate explaining it would take 2 full days to lay tile due to the number of cuts he needed to make for the electrical outlets. He said grouting out be another ½ day. Based on this his estimate to lay and grout 42 sq ft of backsplash would be $1800. Actual work was 6 hrs to lay tile and 2 hrs to grout. When I asked about this (20 hr job quoted vs 8 actual) he challenged me and told me no one wanted to come out to my location but he did. I told him I wasn’t happy & wanted him to have clear understanding of my view of the job so he wasn’t surprised by any reviews. He then reduced price by $200. He waited in my driveway until I transferred money to him. Respect for Customer 3. This started out really well. Ricardo was very quick to come out for estimate (within a week of call). Once tile arrived he was very quick to schedule job (within a week). First day of job, he cancelled due to his van not starting. He showed up for estimate and 2 days of work in pickup truck(van??). He rescheduled and then came 2 hrs late. Second day came 4 hrs late. Both days I had to text him to find out status. He did a good job cleaning up most areas but did miss cleaning up others. I spent about 30 minutes cleaning up after first day. Some of the electric outlets we reinstalled crooked. I gave him a level and some new screws to replace the ones he stripped using a drill to remove them. These things are annoying but not nearly as important as the actual tile and grouting but add them on top and the quality is not there. Customer Responsibility- this is me. I have to admit that I have some responsibility here. As a customer, I should have requested a written estimate that included his “reasons” for the installation cost (time required for cuts). I should have gotten more than one estimate. I let the excitement of finishing the kitchen quickly take over and I didn’t wait for other tile installers to look at job. This should have been a sign that most other installers weren’t available for quite a while. Last, I should have inspected the job very closely before letting Ricardo leave or before final payment. I would have noticed the gaps in grouting. I will now be patient and wait for a tile/grout expert to come and determine what can be done to fix our grout issues.

We contracted Ricardo to renovate our shower and bathroom floor. His tile person Fernando did an incredible job for us. We are very pleased with the work that was done and would highly recommend them.

Heard a comercial on tge radio, stopped by picked out some tile. Called Ricardo for install quote. He came out the next day. The job is done and it looks great. Good choice to use Absolute!
