Air Quality Experts has done one job in New Hampshire since 1987: taking asbestos out of buildings. The company works out of 23 Hall Farm Rd in Atkinson, and its Better Business Bureau profile counts 39 years in business, with asbestos removal as the work it offers. Christopher and Kimberly Thompson have owned and operated it alongside a second abatement firm, AQE, Inc., which was incorporated in 2005. A 2016 employee-benefits trade article described Air Quality Experts as a non-union abatement company. The company's name turns up most often in 2016 news coverage of a federal case that ended in dismissal. The Thompsons were arrested on January 26, 2016 and indicted over a Massachusetts union benefit fund; the Eagle-Tribune reported that they appeared in U.S. District Court in Boston to face 18 counts of mail fraud, 18 counts of filing false reports and one count of embezzlement of a benefit fund, and Patch reported that both of their companies were charged as well. In May 2017 the Eagle-Tribune reported that the U.S. District Court dismissed all criminal charges against Air Quality Experts, and that the charges against the Thompsons were dropped at the request of the acting U.S. Attorney. Court filings also carry a civil suit brought against the company by the Massachusetts Laborers' Benefit Funds. For a homeowner who needs asbestos taken out rather than a general remodeler, this is a single-trade outfit that has been at that work since 1987. The Better Business Bureau lists New Hampshire licence C-131 for it; check that number with the state, and get the containment and air-monitoring plan, the disposal paperwork and proof of current insurance in writing before anyone starts.
