Hire Augustine's Home Improvement for a storm door or a deck and the reviews are warm; hand it a six-figure exterior contract and one customer ended up in court. The company works the Cape from East Sandwich, and its own site describes kitchen and bathroom remodeling, flooring, additions, siding, windows and doors, carpentry and decks around Sandwich. The Better Business Bureau names Augustine Lett as the owner, grades the business A+, and puts it at 13 years in business — the company's own site claims 40.
The praise is concrete, and it clusters on defined jobs. A June 2024 Google reviewer had an entire bathroom built, with the crew turning up promptly each day and the work finished inside seven days, plus a kitchen faucet and backsplash done alongside it. A June 2023 reviewer working to a tight timeline said the crew did exactly what they said they would and finished on time. Go back to October 2018 and HomeAdvisor reviewers describe an Andersen storm door with the screen built into it, and a chimney cap sorted out by a metalwork subcontractor he brought in; another that month liked the work enough to have him manage a Cape vacation property from New Jersey. HomeAdvisor's 35 ratings average 4.3, two-thirds of them five stars.
The complaints are about money and delivery, and three of them land in 2022. A November 2022 Houzz reviewer alleges that Augustine Lett took $11,000 from them, describing a contract signed July 30, 2022 for more than $100,000 of exterior work and a $35,000 deposit cashed on August 9, 2022; the Houzz profile says the reviewer filed a Breach of Contract claim in Barnstable District Court, pending as of November 2022. A HomeAdvisor reviewer that same month says kitchen parts already paid for were never delivered, despite asking every day. A Google reviewer that October left one star and one word: "Unreliable". Older complaints run the same way — a December 2017 reviewer says a window job took over four months from signing the contract to the start of work, and a May 2018 reviewer says some promised work was never done while other work was done without permission and charged for.
For a scoped job — a door, a deck, a bathroom — the accounts are good, and the two newest reviews, from 2023 and 2024, are both five stars. For anything large, the deposit is the thing to get right: stage the payments against completed work, keep the schedule and every change order in writing, and confirm the home improvement contractor registration before money moves.
