Callahan A/C & Heating Services is a North Andover shop that's been installing and servicing HVAC and some plumbing systems since at least 2021, holding an active Massachusetts HVAC license and an A+ BBB grade. On Google its 4.2★ average sits across 42 ratings, and the fuller written history — 32 reviews from 2021 through early 2026 — reads more mixed than that headline number. The installs are where the praise concentrates. Reviewers describe a Mitsubishi heat pump with ducting to every room finished in two days without leaving the crawl space a mess, a new steam boiler put in with tarps down to protect the rugs, and a central AC replacement that beat three competing quotes on price while other bidders "proposed unnecessary services." Techs get named repeatedly — Nick troubleshot a furnace other companies couldn't fix and diagnosed a same-day AC failure with a smile, Daniel talked customers through a thermostat and left plain-language instructions, Justin traced a heat-wave AC outage to a wiring fault. On Reddit, Callahan turns up as a repeat local recommendation, alongside a note that its diagnostic visit runs about $100. Recurring complaints follow a similar shape: a job gets billed again on a return visit without actually being fixed. A 2025 review says a furnace kept failing for three years and each follow-up visit was charged without resolving it; another review from the same month describes the same pattern with a different system. A mini-split that failed its pre-summer check twice is a smaller version of the same complaint. Two 2024 reviews raise more serious concerns: one alleges a technician left the HVAC condenser pump unplugged after a service call, flooding a basement and causing mold and wood rot, with the company allegedly unresponsive for weeks; another describes being charged more than $7,000 for a repair the customer says wasn't needed and couldn't be undone. A separate 2025 review, unrelated to any HVAC work, describes an employee driving aggressively near the reviewer's child. Given the volume of praised installs against a handful of serious billing and conduct complaints, anyone considering Callahan for post-install service or a repeat visit should get a clear diagnosis and a firm price in writing before authorizing more work.
“Three good ones below. I have used all three extensively and consistently have good experiences. Fagundes Plumbing Heating in Lowell Callahan AC & Heating in North Andover David Murphy in Lowell”
“We’ve had good luck with Callahan - but they’re a larger company, and do the 100ish charge to come out and take a look.”
“Callahan AC in Andover. That price is ridiculous”
Had them install a Mitsubishi heat pump with duct to all the rooms. They installed the unit as well as the ducting for all the rooms in 2 days. We just had some blown-in insulation and they worked in the crawl space with that but managed to keep the house clean and free of any debris. They were 1 of 3 companies we called for this install and they gave us a unit that's not over or under sized. Price-wise they were the cheapest. Overall we had a great experience with their service.
I have rated them before and I am rating them again now. Do your research on who you have install your heating system. Callahan’s install was on time and on budget but I was recommended them based on their service. When I have needed them they are courteous, cordial and treat your emergency as their emergency and I could not be more grateful for their service. Go with Callahan. Highly recommend.
We have been using Callahan for years and we have had nothing but 5 star service. In about a week from now we will be moving and had an issue arise with our AC. Nick was sent out the same day and repaired the problem in no time...with a smile. I can't recommend this business enough!
Daniel was efficient and personable. He was also clear on instructions. Thank you Daniel Carol and Denis
Hi, I turned my ac mini split on today and it is non functional. This is the second time that after a maintenance check-up prior to summer and being told the system was good to go it was not providing ac the first time it gets turned on. I was wondering if this is common? I purchased my mini split in 2016 and would have recommended this company to everyone. Not so now.
