Cape & Island Kitchens is a kitchen-and-bath design-build shop based in Sagamore Beach, with a second showroom in Hyannis, that the company says has been owner-operated since founder Joe Cheney started it. Its own pages put the run at roughly three decades, though the exact number shifts by page. The company describes itself as staffed in-house with its own designers, installers, electricians, plumbers and carpenters rather than subcontracting a job out piecemeal. The reviews back that structure up. In a run of ratings from this spring, one homeowner credited the crew's Forman Bill along with Sonja and Laurie for keeping a job on schedule start to finish. Another watched designer Winn Fernandes rework a layout to double the storage in her kitchen, with installers described as professional and respectful of the home. A third was quoted 5-6 weeks for a small kitchen redo and got it back in exactly six, blizzard days included. When a 20-year-old lazy susan hinge failed, a tech named Kevin came out and fixed it at no charge - the kind of detail that points to warranty follow-through rather than a one-time sale. Designer John Hurley shows up as a named point of contact for cabinetry choices in more than one account, which fits a company built around one assigned designer per project. That pattern holds across a much longer run of reviews too: 104 in total since 2021 across seven different sites, averaging 4.9 out of 5 on Google from 145 ratings and 4.6 on Houzz from 41, with a Best of Houzz design award attached. Not everything is unblemished. The company isn't BBB accredited and carries a B- there for not responding to a complaint on file. On Houzz, one otherwise five-star reviewer pushed back on being asked to pay in full before the project was finished, which is worth asking about up front. And the company's own claimed years in business shift depending on the page - 32, 35, or the BBB's 37 since 1989 - a small inconsistency but one worth noting when someone is leaning on a long-track-record pitch. This fits a homeowner planning a full kitchen (or cabinetry-heavy bathroom) remodel who wants one firm handling design through installation, especially if having a single named designer walk the project matters. Ask who that designer will be, and pin down the payment schedule before signing.

I cannot say enough positive things about Cape and Islands Kitchen. Unlike most others, they have their own dedicated design team, installers, electricians, plumbers, and carpenters. Plus a Forman (Bill) and Sonja and Laurie that oversee the project. They started on time and finished on time. They were easy to communicate with and addressed all our issues promptly. They are good people to work with.

We had Cape & Island Kitchens remodel our kitchen. Winn Fernandes suggested design choices that doubled our storage and were esthetically lovely. The installers were professional, respectful and did a great job! Office staff were friendly and responsive to our needs. We are so happy with our kitchen and happy to have chosen this company.

From inception to completion, our kitchen remodel project exceeded our expectations! The professionalism that each member of the team showed was consistent and reliable. We were told that our project to redo our small kitchen would be between5-6 weeks. They finished exactly in 6 weeks in spite of losing a couple of days due to the blizzard. Each subcontractor(electrician, plumber, and carpenter) showed up on time and worked diligently. Their expertise and skill was evident throughout. The communication was excellent throughout the entire process. We always knew who was coming into our home each day and were given timelines ahead of what was coming in the following week. The price and dates of deposits were clearly delineated so there was no guessing on our part. Our designer, Donna, hit it out of the park! She was so helpful in offering suggestions and assured me that she could turn our outdated kitchen into a gorgeous modern and more functioning space. It is truly a kitchen that we couldn't have imagined. The project manager, Bill, showed up frequently to make sure that all was running smoothly. We can't emphasize enough how great this company has been to work with so if you are thinking of a remodel- don't think twice... just call them. From 2 grateful clients, Melanie & Jake

My lazy susan corner cabinet door was broken. Kevin came by and immediately saw what was wrong and fixed it free of charge. Great service on a 20 year old purchase. Thank you, Cape & Island kitchens and especially Kevin. Such a great guy.
