CMA Heating & Air runs out of Dartmouth on the Massachusetts Southcoast, and the job people keep hiring it for is a ductless mini-split or heat pump swap — the kind of install where getting the sizing and placement right matters. The company says it's a Mitsubishi Authorized Contractor and a Bryant dealer, and covers both the Southcoast and Rhode Island under licenses it lists in both states. The name that comes up in nearly every review is Chris, the owner, and the story is consistent: he shows up when he says he will, walks through the options before quoting a job, and the number he gives is the number that gets charged. A 2025 Thumbtack review described him as one of the few contractors willing to even come out and quote a hot-air oil furnace replacement, then finishing the install within a few weeks at the price he'd promised. A 2023 Google review described a similar arc for a whole-house mini-split and water heater swap, done in a single day. The ratings back that pattern up: 100% five-star on Angi and HomeAdvisor (37 ratings each) and 4.9 out of 5 on Thumbtack (66 ratings), plus an A+ from the BBB, though the company isn't BBB-accredited. Nothing negative shows up in the last six months of activity. Two things are worth asking about before booking. The company's own tenure is inconsistent across platforms — Thumbtack lists 29 years in business, while HomeAdvisor and Angi list 9 years — so it's worth asking directly how long CMA has operated under its current name. And the trade license shown on HomeAdvisor and Angi is filed under New Hampshire, while the company's own site and Thumbtack point to Massachusetts and Rhode Island licenses instead; none of these directory-listed numbers have been checked against a state licensing board, so confirming the actual license number and state directly with the company is the safer move. For a mini-split, heat pump, or furnace job on the Southcoast or into Rhode Island, this is a small, owner-run shop with a deep and consistent run of positive reviews about communication and pricing — just get the license and tenure details straight from Chris before signing anything.
“Chris clearly explained options, did what he said he would do, and was obviously committed to doing quality work! I highly recommend Chris and CMA!”
a A Professional who knows what he is doing is responsive and communicates well. Came in to quote the job exactly when he said he would, and showed up the following week to install the system. I thought the cost was reasonable.
Let me start by saying that Chris was one of very few that would come out and give me a quote on a Hot Air Oil Furnace. He was very quick to return my message. He came out to my house a couple of days later. Told me exactly what work would be done. Gave me a quote that night that was extremely reasonable and within a few weeks Chris came to do the installation as planned. Couldn't have been happier with the work that was done and would recommend CMA Heating and Air to anyone.
We had an excellent experience with CMA Heating and Air! Chris was very knowledgeable and offered us an affordable price for a full house heat pump system. The work was done quickly and efficiently and with very high quality. I had a lot of technical questions and Chris patiently answered them all with clear expertise in the area. Our system is now up and running and works great! I’d highly recommend working with CMA!
