Cutler Building & Remodeling is a Mendon/Milford general contractor Mark Cutler has run since the company's early-2000s founding — the exact year is inconsistent on its own site, cited as 2001 on the home and team pages and 1996 on the about-us page — and its work leans toward big, structural jobs: full-house rebuilds, additions, and first-floor renovations rather than single-room updates. The reviews on file describe exactly that scale of work. One homeowner had their house rebuilt from the foundation up and said, a year later, they were still glad they did it; another walked through a first-floor renovation that knocked down walls, installed an I-beam, and rebuilt the kitchen entirely; a third added a family room and foyer to a 1947 Cape. Across seven of the eight reviews on Google and Houzz between 2014 and 2025, the same threads recur — organized crews, honest budgeting ("we'll work within your budget"), and projects that landed on time. BuildZoom's records back that up with volume: 40 permitted projects dating to 2018 and a BuildZoom Score of 100, in the 87th percentile of Massachusetts contractors it tracks; Houzz separately showcases 22 completed projects across two dozen towns west and southwest of Boston. The one sour note has nothing to do with the construction work itself — a 2024 Google review said a Cutler company vehicle tailgated the reviewer at 6:20am on a residential street before speeding off well over the limit. It's worth asking about if it gives pause, but it stands alone against a run of detailed, positive accounts of the actual renovations. Mark Cutler holds an active Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, verified directly against the state registry, and BuildZoom separately lists that same license number as active. He's a UMass Amherst Construction Management graduate who also lists membership in the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston and Remodelers Advantage, and describes the company as a Certified Green Builder — self-reported, but consistent with the scale of work the reviews describe. For someone planning a real renovation — an addition, a gut-and-rebuild, a full first floor — rather than a single fixture swap, this is a contractor whose reviews and permit history point toward handling that scope well. Worth confirming current lead times and getting the budget conversation in writing early, since that's the part reviewers specifically praised Cutler for getting right.
Cutler building is a team of true professionals. They rebuilt our house from the foundation up and almost 1 year later, we still could not be happier with the results. They helped us save thousands of dollars in the design phase with their advice and expertise. They also delivered the rare trifecta of a project on time, within budget, and with quality. All expectations were met and I would highly recommend them.
From the start of our first floor renovation to the end, Cutler was top notch. Our renovation included knocking down walls, installing an I beam, and moving and renovating the entire kitchen, and Cutler handled it all with ease. And the results are stunning. They are organized, skilled craftspeople who lead with kindness. I cannot say enough good things. Highly, highly recommend.
We met with several contractors in the process of our renovation. The Cutler team was the first to say, 'we'll work within your budget'. Not only did they do that, but they exceeded all our expectations when it comes to timeline. Highly recommend Cutler Building and Renovation to all our friends, for a team that will listen to your needs, partner on creative solutions to achieve your goals (like budget), and deliver a great end result. Thank you to everyone part of the Cutler family - especially Mark, Melissa, Moses, Maxx, Susan and Jamie!
If you want the job done meticulously and correctly, you want Cutler Building to do it for you! Cutler Building just completed a family room addition and foyer addition on our 1947 Cape. They did a fantastic job. They were very patient with us as we planned our build, and once they got going, they finished ahead of schedule and on budget! They were great to work with, and I will miss them - they become like a part of your family! I cannot recommend them highly enough!
One of their drivers tailgated me at 6:20am. I pulled over to let him pass because I was terrified , he sped ahead of me going atleast 20mph over the speed limit (this is on a residential street) Scary that this is how you drive while representing your company!
