D & F Afonso Builders Inc

Thirty-seven years in Milford and not one customer review anywhere — that is the odd shape of D & F Afonso Builders. The BBB has the company starting in 1988 and incorporating a decade later, run by president Domenic Afonso out of 189 Main Street, doing custom residential construction and renovations. What is written down is mostly the work. BuildZoom's permit trail shows a new house in Upton in 2023, plumbing and gas permits there in 2024, and a kitchen-and-two-bathroom remodel in Waltham in 2022. Local reporting fills in older ground: a 2007 Milford Daily News piece found Afonso in a company cap inside a Roland Way ranch his crew was building, and in 2009 the town picked the firm as low bidder to tear up Jefferson Street and rebuild its sidewalks, granite curbs and drainage. A builder at home on both the residential and municipal sides, then — though the newest of those accounts is from 2017, a note that the owner had been going to the Portuguese Picnic for 45 years. Two regulatory matters belong in the conversation before anyone calls. In 2025 the EPA published a Clean Water Act Section 309(g) public notice of a proposed administrative penalty in a case named for D & F Afonso Builders, Inc.; it is a proposed assessment, with no outcome stated. Separately, SVEP Navigator publishes an OSHA inspection of the company opened in December 2010 that ended in three citations and $4,620 in proposed penalties, at a Sutton job site. Small and long past, but a fair thing to raise when the crew will be working at your house. On paper the credentials are directory entries rather than registry confirmations: BBB carries two Massachusetts Department of Public Safety numbers, CSFA-058564 and HE-045741, and BuildZoom lists a home improvement contractor registration it says it checked in May 2026. BBB itself marks the company Not Rated for want of sufficient information, and not accredited. This is a call for someone building or gutting a whole house who is willing to do their own diligence: ask for recent local addresses to drive by, check those licence numbers against the state registry directly, and ask the company straight out about the EPA notice.
