Daniel R Murphy Electric Inc is an electrical contractor whose website says it serves residential and commercial customers in the Metrowest and Greater Boston areas, and says it has 20 years in business. A recent customer who remodeled about 1k sq ft of their basement says Dan spent a long time with them on the electrical walk-through, and that when one installed light had a manufacturing issue two weeks later, he came right out and replaced it. In a 2020 review, a customer said they had the company upgrade their electric service from 100 amp to 200 amp, with a new meter, new panel and new wiring, and that everything was cleaned up afterward. Another 2020 review said Dan replaced all the wiring in their old fuse box. In a 2022 review, a customer said the owner gave advice on the placement of recessed lights. A 2018 review said Dan replaced several light fixtures and outlets and quickly diagnosed a couple of electrical problems. In a 2024 review, a customer said that after Dan upgraded their electrical panel and the inspector asked for changes, it took more than a month to send his crew and another month to schedule the inspection, leaving their solar system disconnected. In a 2023 review, a customer said the work on the electrical side of a new hot water heater was done correctly, but they were quoted $500-600 and then received a $750 bill with no explanation until they called.
Dan and his team are fantastic. I remodeled about 1k sq ft in my basement and they did a great job. Dan spent a long time with me when we did the electrical walk thru, answering all my questions and making suggestions when there wasn’t an obvious solution. His team is knowledgeable, thorough, responsive and neat. One of the lights installed had an issue 2 weeks later (manufacturing issue not install issue) he came right out and replaced it. I highly recommend Dan and his team!!
Dan Murphy is the least responsive person I have dealt with. He made our solar system useless for two months because he wouldn't respond to messages. He had upgraded our electrical panel, and the inspector asked him to change certain things. It took him more than a month to send his crew to make the necessary changes, and another month to schedule the inspection (which took 5 minutes). Almost every week I sent him a respectful message and asked when he is planning to come or schedule the inspection. The inspector contacted him. The company that had subcontracted the electrical work contacted him. And he simply ignored these messages. Finally, after the inspection, I asked him why it took so long, and he says "well it's done now." No expression of regret, no apology that our several thousand $ solar system remained disconnected because he wasn't responsive. This is no way to treat a customer.

Poor communication. They did the work correctly (help with electrical aspects of installing new hot water heater). However they told me it would cost $500-600 and I never heard anything else until I received a $750 bill. No explanation why the bill was more in person or over email. Dan gave me a reason after I called and asked but it would have been much more professional to be transparent and straightforward from the start. Again, the work was fine.
I can't say enough about the professionalism from Mike and his associate. All work was completed in a timely manner and they left all areas immaculate when finished. I would highly recommend Daniel R Murphy Electrical!
