Design First is a Buzzards Bay, MA business that describes itself on Houzz as "Interior design specializing in Kitchens and Baths," providing space planning, remodeling design, product selection and sales, project management, lighting design and color selection. Its website states 35 years in business. A 2014 Houzz review said Barbara was hired in 2010 for a complete kitchen and utility room remodel in an 85 year old home, creating "the old vibe mixed with modern convenience," and was hired again in 2014 to design custom book cases to match the kitchen. In another 2014 Houzz review, the owners of a very small 140 square foot kitchen said Barbara designed it, working all of their desired appliances into the scheme and placing an island into the layout. A third 2014 review described a kitchen remodel that kept some existing cabinets and added new ones to update and expand the kitchen, and said that after the installation you would never know some of the cabinets were old and some were new. The Better Business Bureau gives Design First an A+ grade.

After requesting our cabinet supplier, who also provided kitchen layout services at no additional cost, to design our very tight kitchen renovation, we found that we just weren't happy with the draft layouts. Being proficient cooks who were used to having all of the appliance amenities in our main house, we were looking to create a professional kitchen layout but to accomplish it in the very small 140 square foot available space. A few months later and following a number of meetings with other kitchen designers, we met Barbara who was recommended to us as someone who could creatively use the available space and design a very workable kitchen. Having Barbara design the kitchen space was ultimately the best decision we made. She transformed the small space into a stunning and functional area that is a joy to cook in. In addition to being able to work all of our desired appliances into the scheme, she was able to place an island into the layout which made a world of difference for two people to concurrently cook and prepare meals as well as a gravitational focal point for family and friends. Barbara listened carefully to all of our concerns, was very easy to work with and incorporated all of our needs into the kitchen design. We would most certainly use Barbara again if the need arose and we highly recommend her to anyone who is seeking to design a kitchen.
Hired Barbara for two different projects. The first was a complete kitchen and utility room remodel in a 85 year old home in 2010. Barbara listened and created exactly what I wanted -the old vibe mixed with modern convenience. It's lovely, functions well and I enjoy it everyday. Hired Barbara again in 2014 to design custom book cases to match kitchen - again another great job. Barbara is very experienced. She listens to what you want and also makes great suggestions to make a vision into reality. Would absolutely hire and recommend Barbara.
Kitchen remodel - We utilized some of our existing cabinets and added new cabinets to update and expand the kitchen. So, this was a little challenging. After the installation, you would never know some of the cabinets were old and some were new! Barbara took the time to address my concerns and needs and I am thoroughly enjoy my new updated kitchen!
