Paid-work allegations — customer alleged payment without contractors left a disaster
Elite Construction provides disaster restoration, insurance repairs, and reconstruction, with work described across general contracting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, roofing, painting, and flooring. Customers describe fire, water, storm, and tree-damage restoration, as well as basement and kitchen work.
Customers report crooked trim, pipes left outside walls, mistakes not fixed, homeowners not listened to, and a failed inspection. Other reports describe delayed callbacks, every scheduled appointment cancelled, rude interactions, a house left looking horrible, two months without a response after a repair timeframe, unfinished walls and paint, incomplete work requiring another contractor, leaking renovations, frozen pipes, and poor project management.
One customer reported an astronomical charge for incomplete roof-damage work and hiring another contractor to finish it. Another reported the wrong floor color, large floor gaps, a poor ceiling, a broken shower head, a cracked vanity, work that was not done, and hundreds of dollars charged for items that were not completed. A fire-rebuild customer reported a four-year wait to return home and more than 1,600 punch-list items remained unresolved. A neighbor reported a blocked mailbox and driveway, debris in the yard, parking on grass, a hostile worker, a tire screw, and no office apology.
We had a water pipe leak from the upstairs master bath, through the living room ceiling and on through to the basement- ruined carpets, flooring, ceiling, furniture, etc, at the end of a warm July. Service Master came that day and did a superb job of water mitigation. Next steps- all new to us and we had no idea where to begin. Service Master, with full transparency telling us they work with Elite Construction, said we might want to check them out for the renovation tasks.
We worked with the Vermont based Elite crew, starting with Francis helping us through the insurance estimate process and developing the renovation plan. We didn’t know what we didn’t know, and he patiently helped through decision points ( who knew there were so many!) around redesign of the bathroom, product selection, etc. And although we never met her personally, Paula in billing has been great to work with as well.
When Francis handed off to Jeremy as the project manager, we were off to the renovation races with quite the team of Elite staffers and sub contractors. Jeremy - unfailingly cheerful, with a can do but realistic attitude, offering suggestions, keeping us informed with every step, surprise discoveries and resulting schedule change-much appreciated. Thank you for the quality team you assembled beginning with Matt of Elite and all the subcontractors- high praise and appreciation to each and everyone of them. To a person, they entered our home with professionalism, strong work ethic and pride in their quality workmanship, a customer service attitude and good humor (which frequently came in handy as apparently with any project there are always a few surprises which alter the schedule (plumbing is a soggy Pandora’s box!!)). Jeremy and each crew member kept us informed, worked collaboratively when their tasks overlapped and asked for our input at appropriate stages.
To all the folks who helped put our house back together, in addition to Francis and Jeremy: It was truly a pleasure to get to know each and everyone of you. Not only did you do great work, but we felt you really valued this place we call home. And you did so many little things, such as helping us move things in and out of rooms, that were truly appreciated by us. And our hill and dirt roads didn’t deter you! Thank you (and Charlie, our dog, loved you all, and isn’t that what really mattered!)
Special shout out to your company’s carpenter and general magician, Matt. We couldn’t have done it without him. He took the time to get to know us and helped by offering great suggestions and going the extra mile for Ted, me and of course, Charlie! Elite Construction by name only. If the company was named after the quality of their work, it would be more like Atrocious Construction! Zero stars would be my rating if possible.
We had a total loss of our house due to a fire almost 5 years ago, and we are still living with the shoddy workmanship that Elite did when rebuilding the house from scratch.
Most, if not all, work on the house was done by subcontractors of Elite. They had a “project manager“ (initials MC), who was more of a Project MisManager. There was little to no oversight of the project on a regular basis, and the subcontractors ran amok doing whatever they wanted, whether it was on the blueprints or not or in conformance with standard practices, and several items on the drawings were never done.. None of them were held accountable for their poor quality of work. The attention to details, especially in the finish carpentry, painting, and drywall work is ridiculously poor. There are large gaps and misaligned mitered corners on window and door trim, large gouges and blemishes in the woodwork that were never filled in prior to painting, several dents and scratches on the brand new, high-end appliances. Virtually every door in the house had dents and scratches. Paint and scratches on brand new bathroom vanity. Large gaps in floor planks. A large “box” in the corner of a bedroom to cover a sprinkler pipe that should have come through the foundation wall into the basement.
There’s an old saying, “a picture paints a thousand words“. Take a look at some of these pictures and judge for yourself. I’m thinking these pictures paint more like 1 million words, and none of them are good!
After finding over 1600 punchlist items once they claimed to be “substantially complete” with the work, we had a meeting at the house with several members of Elites upper management and ownership to discuss the many problems. They tried to brush it off, like it was no big deal but when asked if they would accept quality like this in their own homes, they were completely speechless. Avoid Elite Construction at all costs!

We lost our entire home family home and everything in it to a tragic fire back in March 2020.
Elite came and rebuilt our home, starting with a new foundation. Literally, the whole building was brand new.
They promise so much.
I literally trusted elite construction to rebuild our home to be just as good, if not better than our old house. It took 4 years before I could move back in my incompleted house. Now I'm stuck doing all the issues that are on my 1600-page punch list that didn't get taken care of.
If I knew then what I've known now, I would have run away from them.
I recommend never signing anything until you read it and get legal advice before signing anything, especially with elite Construction, Merrimack NH.
