Forty-one Google ratings, all of them five stars, for what Porch describes as a one-person operation. Evergreen Home Inspection runs out of East Broadway in Haverhill under Ernie, who the company says has been inspecting houses since 1982 — 44 years by its own count. The argument he makes on his profiles is that an inspection is the wrong place to economize, and the praise carried on Angi and HomeAdvisor tracks that: buyers describe being walked through the house rather than handed a checklist, and the written report with photos and severity levels comes up again and again. Those two directories carry the same five reviews at 5.0 — one set, syndicated across both — and he is listed as a member of the New England chapter of ASHI. The reach is wide for a solo inspector. Porch lists a service area of roughly 125 towns across northeastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire, and beyond the standard walkthrough he offers electrical, HVAC, water-damage and home-safety inspections, radon testing, and unlimited phone consultation after the report lands. His background renovating older homes shows up as old-house renovation consultation on the Angi listing. Two practical things. One inspector means his calendar is the constraint, so if you are working against an inspection contingency date, ask about availability before anything else. And while the review history stretches back to 2008 across six sources, most of the detailed write-ups are several years old now — the Google score is the freshest thing here. A sensible call if you want an unhurried inspection you can walk along with, particularly on an older New England house. Confirm his availability against your contingency date and ask what radon testing adds to the fee.

Ernie is solid. He was able to discover so much information we would never have found otherwise. Without his patient responses to many concerns this purchase may otherwise have fallen apart, but it did not, thanks to Ernie.

Definitely recommend Ernie; he is knowledgeable and took the time to inspect the home and provide answers to our questions thoroughly. He provided a detailed inspection report and recommendations, and things to look out for for years into the future. He also went through the appliances/equipment details and the care procedures along with the inspection.

Ernie was a fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable home inspector. He was punctual, professional, and definitely worth every penny. Ernie provided a clear, yet detailed, description of features and issues of the house from both a safety and maintenance perspective. He was very observant and his notes, both verbally and in writing, will provide me with a useful reference for years to come. I strongly recommend hiring him.
