FBN Construction is a Canton-based custom home builder that says it's been building high-end homes and doing whole-home renovations since 1978, working design-build alongside architects and interior designers across Boston and the New England coast. Ownership today is led by President Larissa Cook and Managing Partner Bob Ernst, per the company's own site. Most of what's written about FBN comes from the design and building trades it works alongside rather than from homeowners directly: all eight of its Houzz reviews are from interior designers, architects and suppliers describing what it's like to collaborate on a project, not from a client describing what it was like to live through one. One interior designer relayed a client's own words — that FBN "is not the most affordable in town, but the quality, service and dedication I received was worth every penny and more." In a 2019 review, another designer described a large master bathroom, walk-in closet and fireplace renovation with excellent team communication, and in a 2015 review, a third called a kitchen transformation impressively crafted. A more typical review posted in 2026 praised the team's project management and attention to detail directly. The company has picked up a run of industry recognition recently, including Boston Magazine's 2024 Best Custom Home Builder and Modern Luxury Interiors' 2026 Custom Builder of the Year. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor license, #173002, is active and verified against the state registry, though BuildZoom also shows an earlier license number now inactive. Worth knowing: the company's own materials don't agree on how long it's been around — the About page says 1978 (48 years), the homepage says "over five decades," and Houzz says "over four decades." None of that is disqualifying, but it's worth asking directly rather than taking any one figure at face value. This is a strong option if you're planning a custom home or a full luxury renovation and want a firm the design trade vouches for — just ask for homeowner references directly, since most of what's published here comes from collaborators rather than past clients.
