Fitton Moving & Storage works out of 161 Benson St in Fitchburg, and is the company Central Massachusetts households call for local moves, long-distance and international relocations, office moves and storage. The business describes itself as third-generation and family-owned, established in 1945, and says it runs a 50,000 square foot climate-controlled storage facility alongside the moving operation. The Better Business Bureau files the same address and phone under the corporate name Fitton Van & Storage, Inc., with Fitton Moving & Storage listed as an alternate name. What customers describe most consistently is a crew that arrives when it said it would and treats the house carefully. Recent reviewers in June 2026 credit a thoughtful pack-up in Massachusetts followed by an efficient unload in Maine with an accurate estimate, and a lead named Eric whose team packed more than 4,500 pounds of household goods in under seven hours for a military overseas move. Crew members are named again and again — Dave, Lewis, Mike, Eric, Shaq, Brandon — which is the pattern of a small, stable operation rather than rotating labor. In January 2026 reviews, homeowners described furniture wrapped against scratches on new hardwood, boxes landing in the correctly labeled rooms, and storage held for several weeks while a new home was renovated before move-in. Google publishes a 4.9 average across 22 ratings, and the BBB shows an A+ grade with accreditation since 2006. Two things are worth raising before you book. A June 2026 reviewer who booked two movers on the owner's advice reported the job taking 4.5 hours against a three-hour estimate, and said the experience did not impress them — so it is fair to ask how the hourly estimate is built and what happens when stairs or access slow a crew down. Separately, a BBB reviewer reported valuables missing, items broken, and delivery handled by a company Fitton outsourced to arriving more than two hours late with boxes unpacked and items not reassembled; if your move crosses state lines, ask directly who physically performs the delivery leg and how claims for loss or damage are handled. One more thing to reconcile: the company's own site says it has served Central Massachusetts since 1945 for nearly 80 years, while the BBB profile lists a business start date of April 1988 and 38 years in business. Both can be true of a family that has moved people longer than the current corporation has existed, but the numbers do not match, and the trading history is worth asking about. Fitton is a sensible call for a local Central Massachusetts move where punctual, careful crews and on-site storage matter. Confirm the written estimate and the hourly minimum, and confirm in writing who handles any long-distance delivery.
We got a quote from Fitton after seeing them recommended several times in a local Facebook group. We booked with them as hourly prices were similar to others but they had only a 1 hr minimum. As we were only doing a partial move 10 minutes away and hoped to keep it quick, we scheduled for 2 movers as advised by the owner (rather than 3). It took 4.5 hours to move a few rooms worth of furniture after the quote estimated 3 hours. While we acknowledge that our house had awkward stairs that contributed, we were not very impressed with the overall experience. One mover took a weird step 30 minutes into loading and spent a lot of time out at the truck recovering. We did not know how to handle this in the moment and waited to bring it up with Dave afterwards - of course we don't want anyone getting hurt, but when you're paying by the hour and only one person is doing most of the moving, that's not great. When my husband paid at the end, they only took off 15 minutes to account for the delays. When we brought this up with Dave, the response was basically that it was our word against theirs as no injury was reported. They also lost a pillow from our loveseat, and some wood furniture had rainspots and minor damage. We will use other movers in the future.
1000% recommend! This move was a huge job, and the team was absolutely amazing from start to finish. They were professional, respectful, hardworking, and took great care of all our belongings. Everything was handled with care, and they made what could have been a stressful day so much easier. I couldn't be happier with their service and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable moving company!
Just wanted to write a quick thanks to the Fitton crew. We had a very thoughtful pack up on Thursday in Massachusetts and a very efficient unload on Friday in Maine. The estimate was accurate. I am very appreciative of the care and work done by the crew of Lewis, Mike and Eric!!
Eric and his team assisted me with a military overseas move. They all were especially professional, efficient, and packed/moved every single item in my house with 100% care. They packed over 4,500 pounds of house hold goods in under 7 hours, there was not a time where I felt worried about my house hold goods, and I would highly recommend working with this company especially Eric (Lead) and his crew of professionals!
Mike, Shaq, and Brandon were great! "5/5 stars. From start to finish, the team was professional, efficient, and super careful. They made our move stress free. Highly recommend Fitton!
