Jim Anderson Stained Glass

Jim Anderson has been cutting and restoring glass in Boston's South End since the late 1970s. His studio on Tremont Street designs, makes and restores stained, etched and engraved glass — doors, windows, skylights and decorative pieces for homes, businesses and churches. He says he trained at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts and apprenticed at one of the last stained glass studios in the city before opening his own. The work has been written about for years. Boston Magazine wrote in 2019 that his elaborate stained-glass work turns up everywhere from Back Bay restaurants to Beacon Hill brownstones. The Boston Globe photographed him in 2014 with an 1880s Victorian sidelight he was about to restore. A New England Home piece in 2023 credited the studio with designing a custom window, and a local paper quoted him in 2010, then a glass restoration specialist of 35 years, saying there are not many people left who can do this. The two customer write-ups are short and warm. In May 2025 one described Jim as a true artist working with a crew of talented young people who were excited by the craft, and said the finished window had turned their home into a piece of art. His directory profiles add a Consumer Choice Award, a This Old House feature and a past presidency of the Boston Stained Glass Guild, and state that estimates are free and no warranty is offered. One of those listings puts his experience at 51 years while his own site says over 40, so treat the exact figure loosely.
