KCR — Karpouzis Commercial Refrigeration — has worked out of Framingham since 1973, and the reviews split cleanly along one line: strong when it's straightforward HVAC or refrigeration work, pointed when someone outside their preferred customer base calls for a one-off job. The company, now led by president Andrew Karpouzis with a crew of about 21, covers both sides of the trade — home heat pumps and ductless mini-splits on one end, walk-in coolers, ice machines and commercial refrigeration on the other. On Google, 54 ratings average 4.8★, and the same technician names keep recurring across years of reviews — Brian, Steve, Matt, George — pointing to a small, stable field crew rather than rotating subs. A 2025 review describes a rush-shipped part getting a furnace back up within two days; a 2024 install put in a Mitsubishi heat pump in six hours with a clean, low-visibility line run; a 2021 review credits the crew with finding a mini-split leak in 15 minutes and getting it fixed within a week, after other shops quoted two-to-three-week waits. On the commercial side, a Newton bakery says it has used KCR exclusively for 20 years and recently had it swap in two large fridge units. The company is BBB-accredited at an A+ (BBB notes it doesn't factor customer reviews into that grade). The friction shows up around smaller, occasional jobs. A 2026 reviewer says KCR declined an after-hours repair call because they hadn't booked enough work with the company, despite past equipment purchases; a 2024 review — sarcastic and pointed — describes similar reluctance on a one-off residential refrigeration job after paying for a visit. A 2022 reviewer separately called a $300 quote fee a rip-off. The license numbers KCR lists for itself — a Massachusetts refrigeration contractor registration, a pipefitter master license, and a Rhode Island refrigeration master license — come from its own site, not a registry lookup. KCR reads best for an established residential or commercial account with recurring HVAC or refrigeration needs; the reviews that go sideways are mostly from people trying to book a single small or occasional job. Worth confirming upfront that a one-time or after-hours call is something they're willing to take before counting on it.
“KCR in Framingham.”
Needed an after hours commercial repair. Called for service and was told that they had what we needed, but since we didn’t use their services enough that they were passing on doing the repair. We have used this company for several calls and purchased equipment several times but I guess we just weren’t good enough to justify a call 2 miles down the road this time. It will certainly be the last time that I consider doing any business with KCR.
KCR has been maintaining my furnace + AC for some years now. Recently, they diagnosed and repaired my furnace in two days with a rush shipment of a less common part. I trust them to keep my house warm in the winter!
Professional, efficient, and expert service. We contracted KCR to commission a used 50hp glycol chiller with a remote condenser unit in an unusual indoor-outdoor split setup. They provided an accurate and comprehensive estimate & timeline, and did the installation and setup perfectly. As is expected with any new-to-you equipment, a couple interesting issues popped up, and KCR had the availability and expertise to troubleshoot things quickly and keep the cold flowing. They were great at explaining everything along the way and providing suggestions for spare parts to have on hand for any other issues that came up. Big thanks to Jerry & the technicians, Marty, Steve, and Brian, for their great work on an integral part of our production facility!
Amazing experience! Came out on short notice during the latest heat wave and fixed everything. Would highly recommend.
We reached out to KCR on a holiday due to an A/C issue. They responded quickly with a service call scheduled later that morning. The company texted us when Craig, our tech, was on the way. Craig was a wealth of info and explained and diagnosed the issue. He was courteous and efficient even removing his shoes when inside the house. Very impressed with KCR and Craig. Highly recommend.
