Lewis & Weldon Custom Kitchens is a Hyannis design-build firm that makes its own cabinetry rather than reselling someone else's — a distinction more than one customer says tipped their decision. Owner Chuck Hart's company says on its site it has served Cape Cod, the South Shore and New England since 2002; BBB lists it as 22 years in business with a formal start date of 2004. It's built its name mainly on kitchens, though its Houzz listing and reviews also cover bathroom and whole-house remodel work. The volume of praise is substantial: 33 to 35 documented projects across Houzz and BuildZoom's permit records, an A+ BBB grade, 4.4 stars from 21 Google reviews, 4.3 from 12 on Houzz, and seven Houzz Design Awards. Repeat customers describe multiple kitchens completed for them over the years, and reviewers consistently single out the in-house cabinetry's craftsmanship — "like a fine piece of furniture," one wrote in a 2013 review, an opinion echoed as recently as August 2024, when a customer praised the attention to detail on a new island and kitchen. Its most recent public review dates to that August 2024 job; the written history beyond it runs back through 2012. That history isn't spotless. In a 2017 Houzz review, a customer described being fired from a job at 60% complete after 14 months on a project quoted at 14 to 16 weeks, following a failed inspection and a lawsuit the reviewer says they won. A 2020 Houzz review describes an 8-month overrun on a small kitchen with an undisclosed budget increase, saying the company was behind from the start. And a 2012 BuildZoom review — the sole review on that platform — alleges non-payment to vendors and a pattern of disappearing after collecting a check. These are older, specific accounts rather than a recent pattern, but real ones worth weighing against the far larger body of praise. One more thing worth confirming directly: BuildZoom reports that a Construction Supervisor license the company once held, CS-097094, is now listed inactive and was at one point cancelled according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety — ask about current licensing before signing anything. There's also a small mismatch in the company's own story: its website says it's operated since 2002, while BBB lists a 2004 start date. For a Cape Cod kitchen or bath project, this is a long-tenured, award-recognized shop with a strong majority of enthusiastic, specific repeat-customer praise — but given the scattered serious complaints and the open licensing question, it's worth asking pointed questions about current licensing, project timeline, and payment terms before signing a contract.
We recently hired Lewis and Weldon for our kitchen remodel and new island and we couldn't be happier with the results. The whole team was fantastic to work with and their attention to detail and design was truly impressive. Our new kitchen looks amazing and we have received so many compliments on the work they did. We highly recommend Lewis and Weldon for any remodeling projects you may have - you won't be disappointed!
Chuck and his team at Lewis and Weldon did a beautiful job. The craftsmanship is wonderful. The team was great to work with. In addition to our kitchen he opened a wall and installed a beam to expand the space. We live in an antique so this was no small feat. We had a bit of a different design. I wanted a ‘deVol’ English kitchen feel and Chuck delivered. Thank you Lewis and Weldon!
We are beyond thrilled with the work Lewis and Weldon have done for us. We’ve had three different kitchens designed and completed by them, and each time they’ve exceeded our expectations. Chuck Heart has an incredible eye for design, seeing possibilities in a space that others often overlook. The layout and design they crafted are not only beautiful but also perfectly functional for everyday life. The custom cabinetry is of the highest quality, fitting seamlessly into the space with a clean, elegant look. Everything was custom fit, and the attention to detail was impeccable. What stood out to us was their ability to coordinate so effectively with all the subcontractors, from the appliances to the sinks and countertops. Their professionalism ensured that every element came together smoothly. We highly recommend Lewis and Weldon to anyone looking to transform their kitchen into a stunning, functional space. Their talent, craftsmanship, and dedication are unmatched.
I'm so glad that we chose Lewis & Weldon for our kitchen remodel. They were easy to work with, execution was/is flawless and the team is outstanding. I would recommend them 10x over to anyone who asks.
Best decision we made. We shopped around for a few kitchen design company's on the upper and mid-cape and settled with Lewis & Weldon. We decided to go with them because they make the cabinets themselves, have an amazing reputation and you skip the middleman. The pricing was within budget and working with Chuck and the team was very easy. We did a full kitchen renovation, took down walls, new floors, etc.. Lewis and Weldon worked hand in hand with our builders to make sure everyone was on the same page and the project went flawless. Couldn't be happier, they gave us our dream kitchen.
