Marlboro Pest Control works out of 61 Boston Post Road East in Marlborough and covers the MetroWest towns — Acton, Ashland, Ayer, Boxborough, Carlisle, Concord, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Hudson, Lincoln, Littleton, Maynard, Marlborough and Natick among them. The company says it was started in 1985 by Roy Hansen Sr. and is now run by his son, Roy Hansen Jr., making it a second-generation family business at 41 years. It handles carpenter ants, termites, bed bugs, mice, bees and wasps, roaches, flies and gnats, plus home pest-proofing and, because the owner is a licensed contractor, carpentry repair at pest-damaged sites. The Better Business Bureau rates it A+, though it is not BBB accredited. The praise in the written record is detailed and specific, and most of it is several years old. A homeowner in a December 2017 review described Roy inspecting a spongy dining-room floor with cameras, finding no termites, then mouse-proofing entry points across the house and the attached garage chimney — and reported an end to years of winter mouse activity. A June 2016 reviewer said the company found where mice were getting in, blocked the holes, and then refunded part of the payment because the job turned out smaller than quoted. Free re-treatment when ants came back shows up more than once, in a September 2017 review and again in an April 2017 one. A September 2021 reviewer had a large bee nest in a basement late in the day and said Roy was out and finished within an hour of the call. Three one-star Google reviews from August and September 2025 tell a different story and are the most important thing to ask about. One reviewer wrote that the company "got bought out and the company has gone downhill completely," describing a spring visit where the technician sprayed the outside but did not check the mouse traps set on three floors the previous autumn and said checking them would be an extra charge. Another said a wasps' nest on an eave was still there after two visits. A third, a commercial client, said the company missed two appointments in three weeks for a swarming bee problem and did not return calls, emails or voicemails. A 2016 four-star reviewer had already flagged follow-up communication, and a 2017 five-star reviewer wished for notice before arrivals. The platform figures reflect that split: HomeAdvisor shows 4.9 from 141 ratings but its written accounts stop in 2018, while Google sits at 4.5 from 31 ratings and carries all three of the 2025 complaints. For carpenter ants, mice or a termite inspection in MetroWest, the long record and the carpentry-repair capability are real advantages. Before booking, ask directly who owns and staffs the company now, confirm in writing exactly what a visit includes — specifically whether interior trap checks are part of the plan or billed separately — and agree how missed appointments and callbacks will be handled.
We highly recommend Marlborough Pest Control! A true 5 Star company. We had an unknown issue at my parents home, we gave Marlborough Pest Control a call and they sent a tech out to take a look. They found the issue and it turned out to be a simple issue, we were told what to do stop it. The other good news is their termite protection plan that Mom signed up for years ago worked perfectly, no evidence of termites were located at this time. Good choice Mom! If you need your home inspected for pests, these are the people you want to do it! Special thanks to Kelly and Mike, excellent work!!! Thanks again...
Marlborough pest control got bought out and the company has gone downhill completely. They where at our house in the spring and the tech that came out didn't expect anybody home but I was home that day and he sprayed the outside but did not check the mouse traps on the three floors of the house that they said they would check when they set them in the fall the previous year in the spring time. The tech said to me that would be an extra and to call the office. They don't care anymore unfortunately!
Called them about a wasps' nest, they have been out twice and IT IS STILL THERE. Someone said they don't like to use ladders. Well guess where wasps build nests? UP. HIGH. In this case, on the eave. Don't give this company your business!
If I could give less than one star I would. This company has been impossible to reach, has not shown up twice in the last three weeks to handle a swarming bee problem at my BUSINESS, and we are/were a client of theirs. I emailed them, called several times, left messages with my personal contact info and they never called back after missing the appointments, leaving us in a lurch with a growing bee problem. The most unprofessional company I have ever worked with. I don’t know how they are still in business, they have lost ours for sure.
Excellent company. Their front office and onsite associates were down-to-earth, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly. It is so hard to find this type of customer service.
