Three customers have written about Mass Drain & Plumbing, all of them at one star, and the three are not the same kind of complaint. The substantive one is from March 2024. A homeowner wrote that Jay was brought in under their general contractor to do the plumbing on a large renovation and left various pieces unfinished, among them the gas line to their gas fireplace and their gas heat. That writer said they agreed with an earlier reviewer's account of the company. The second, from July 2022, is an accusation rather than an account of a job: the reviewer called the business a fraud and unlicensed, and said it was interested in taking money rather than doing work. No job, date or address is given. The third, from December 2022, is not from a customer. A plumber who says he runs a competing business in Melrose used the review to object that Mass Drain & Plumbing appears on Google Maps without signage while his own business does not. Against that is what the company says about itself: family owned and operated, working across Greater Boston out of Melrose, with round-the-clock emergency service, water heater installation and repair, and general plumbing and drain work, backed by a stated $1 million liability policy and workers' compensation for its employees. The listings do not line up with each other. The website puts the business at 12 years; the Angi profile self-reports 24 years of experience. The website advertises 24/7 emergency service; Angi's profile says no emergency services and no warranties. And Angi's contact address is on Bolster Street in Everett, about four miles from the Melrose address the other sources carry. If you are considering them, ask for the plumbing licence number and check it yourself against the Massachusetts registry, ask for the certificate of insurance rather than the figure on the website, and get the full scope — every gas connection included — written into the contract before any money changes hands.
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from Mass Drain & Plumbing. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.

Could not agree with Hilda’s review of this business more. Jay was brought in under our general contractor to do plumbing work on a large scale home renovation. Various pieces of the project were left unfinished including connecting the gas line for our gas fireplace, our gas heating only working in certain rooms, and our bathroom tub being inoperable. We had to call in another plumber to try and get some of these immediate issues resolved because Jay was “out of town” and unable to help. He is also incredibly dishonest and on multiple occasions lied about plumbing inspections being scheduled when they hadn’t which impacted the timing of rough and final inspections being scheduled. Absolutely do not use this business!
I have a plumbing business located in Melrose but because I don’t have any signage I can’t be listed on Google Maps so I’ve accepted that! However mass drain and plumbing has no signage yet he’s wrongly listed on Google maps!
This guy is a fraud. He is unlicensed and is only interested in getting your money, not actually doing work.
