"Meticulous" is the word that keeps turning up in Mermaid Painting's reviews — from the homeowner whose kitchen cabinets were repainted, in a December 2025 review, to a Cape Cod general contractor who says in a March 2026 review that this is one of his favorite crews to work alongside.
The shop works out of 74 Old Main St in South Yarmouth and covers Cape Cod. It describes itself as a local company built to do interior and exterior painting at affordable prices, and says it is "led by two strong and caring women" — its BBB page names Laís Abreu Ribeiro and Vanessa Vaz Guimaraes as co-owners and dates the business to February 2020. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, and the BBB has it accredited at A+ since July 2023.
Both platforms carrying ratings put it at 5.0: Google across 29 ratings, Thumbtack across 29, over roughly 30 reviews written between 2023 and 2026. Six of those landed in the last six months, none negative. The through-line is preparation — an October 2024 customer singled out the prep work and how hard the crew pushed each day, and a June 2024 homeowner described long days ending with the site cleaned up.
The jobs described run wider than plain walls. A March 2025 customer walked through a 17-color project involving wall smoothing, stained ceilings and seven wallpapers in awkward geometric spaces. A March 2024 review covered vaulted ceilings, a repaired crack, and a mirrored wall removed so cleanly you can't tell it was ever there. A December 2025 exterior in Harwich Port was washed and painted end to end. Drywall patching and power washing come up often enough to read as normal offerings rather than sidelines.
Two things are worth raising before you call. This is a small shop — the BBB lists two employees — and a customer writing in 2023 advised booking early because they fill up fast. Separately, BuildZoom's page for the company carries clutter that isn't theirs: an inactive construction-supervisor registration it describes as cancelled at some point, plus a permit history of 2006-2012 roof-shingle jobs in Brockton that predate the company's own start date entirely.
If you want a Cape painter for an interior repaint, cabinets, or an exterior that needs washing and real prep before paint touches it, this is a straightforward call. Confirm the home improvement registration yourself, ask about lead time for the season you want, and get the scope in writing before the first coat.

One of the best contractors I have ever had the pleasure to work with! They did an outstanding job painting the interior of my dad’s house and preparing it for the market. Their workmanship was meticulous from start to finish. The level of preparation and attention to detail far exceeded anything I’ve experienced with other painters — the final result looked better than I could have imagined. I cannot recommend Lais and her team enough. They’re true professionals who take great pride in their work.
